Dune: Awakeningis, technically speaking, an MMO. That is, it’s designed from the ground up to be played with other people, possibly with an entire guild at your back helping you farm resources, get the proper gear, and so much more. But if you’re more of a solo player, there are ways to work around this.
The journey may prove tougher in some spots, but there are some shortcuts and things you’re able to exploit in order to make your solo gameplay experience more enjoyable. If you’re jumping into Dune: Awakening for the first time and wondering how to play solo, here’s what you need to know.
Should You Play Solo?
When diving into Dune: Awakening, the first thing you should ask yourself isif you even want to play solo. It can be extremely fun to play with a guild, sharing resources and completing quests in tandem.
However, if you’re considering playing solo, here are some things to consider about playing solo:
If you are interested in taking the road less traveled, and you want to be a one-person show, consider the above before choosing to play solo.
However, if the above sounds fun to you, thenplaying solo can prove to be an immensely rewarding challenge.
Of course, you don’t have to lock into playing solo for the entirety of your run. You can start playing solo, and thenchange your mind later on.
What Class Should You Play Solo?
In Dune: Awakening, there are four central classesyou can choose from:
While all of these classes are viable for playing solo, there are two that are most beneficial for solo players:
Why You Should Play
Trooper
Gunplay is just extremely importantin Dune: Awakening. So, early on, it’s helpful if you start as a Trooper to improve these skills.
Plus, selecting Trooper will allow you tobypass the Trooper quest in the South Hagga Basin, saving you time and energy. Additionally, Troopers have lots of mobility skills, which are helpful for traversal early on.
Bene Gesserit
The Bene Gesserit class has a lot ofgreat skills for crowd controland taking out enemies, as well as one ability you can use as a sort of fast-travel early on.
If you don’t select Bene Gesserit,it takes a long time to find the Bene Gesserit trainer in Dune: Awakening. This process is even slower if you play solo.
Completing The Tutorial Solo
The first thing you’ll want to do when playing solo is speed through the tutorial as fast as possible. Here are some things you can do when you first arrive in the South Hagga Basin to finish the tutorial quickly.
Details
Construct A Central Sub-Fief
The most important thing you can do early on in the South Hagga Basin is toconstruct a sub-fief very centrally to reduce travel time.
Try to construct your sub-fiefnear the Wreck of the Alcyon, which should be revealed on your map after you launch your first Survey Probe.
Don’t Get Distracted
Dune: Awakening is a very big game, and it’seasy to get distracted.
When you’re working through the tutorial,do the missions as soon as they’re given to youby Zantara. The sooner you complete these missions, the faster the rest of the game will open up to you.
Gather As Many Resources As Possible
As you traverse between the core missions of the tutorial, attempt to gather as many resources as you may.
Almost every single quest in the tutorial involves gathering resources. The more you have already by the time the mission is introduced, the less time it’ll take to complete the individual mission.
Your goal in the tutorial is toconstruct a sandbike, which will give you access to the Vermillius Gap, allowing the rest of the game to open up.
Focus on the following resourcesto complete this mission sooner rather than later:
The more of these you can gather, the faster you’ll be able to create a Sandbikeand leave the tutorial area.
If you make one diversion from the tutorial quest line, it should be tocomplete contracts and earn Solaris. This will allow you to potentially buy Particle Capacitors and Advanced Servoks, cutting down on your traversal time.
How To Play Solo
Once you’ve completed the tutorial and are set free on Arrakis, your journey will begin in earnest. While you can go anywhere and pursue whatever mission you like, there are someelements of gameplay you’ll want to focus on firstwhen playing solo.
Create Two Advanced Sub-Fiefs
As soon as you are able, construct two advanced sub-fiefs at a decent distancefrom one another. This is helpful for a variety of reasons.
When you have a guild, it’s easy to gain a lot of refined resources quickly, store items, and findbreak points in your journey across the desert. However, if you’re playing solo, you’ll need to do this yourself.
Having more sub-fiefs is helpfulin this regard. you may also create a third basic sub-fief if you want, but this is far less helpful.
Keep an eye on your taxesonce you have two advanced sub-fiefs, as these are sure to get expensive.
Completing contracts is the fastest way to pay off taxes.
Focused Resource Harvesting
It’s reallyeasy to get sidetrackedin Dune: Awakening. That’s why, when it comes to resource harvesting, try to stay focused on collecting one resource at a time.
There are a ton of areas on the map thatfocus just on one particular resource. Make a plan to seek out whatever specific resource you need, pack the right equipment (as light as possible), and head out to harvest.
Make use of your vehicle storagewhen possible.
Just be aware that you can’t store a vehicle using your replicator once you’re using it to store resources.
As much as is possible, try not to get sidetracked. Collecting extraneous resources can encumber you quickly, and this can prove counterintuitive to whatever project you’re trying to complete, whether it’s research-based or quest-based.
Completing Quests Solo
As mentioned, youcan complete quests with party membersin Dune: Awakening, or even have them complete it for you.
This means that you can easily tear through entire questlines far quicker with a guild than you can solo. However,if you want to play solo, there are some quests you’ll want to prioritizeand ways to prepare for them.
Diversify Your Skill Tree
As alluded to above, you’re going to want tofind and seek out the Trainers for each classso that you can diversify your build.
Since you’re only relying on yourself, you’ll want to ensure you haveaccess to various skillsso you can tailor your build to each individual quest or resource you’re harvesting.
Here are some helpful links tolocations for class trainers. Prioritize these quests as soon as you find them.
Those are the tips and tricks you need to know to play Dune: Awakening solo! Remember, it’s no failing if you occasionally get help from a guild, butplaying solo can prove to be a great challengefor expert players.
