Elden Ring Nightreignlooks and feels like the original Elden Ring at first glance, but there are few a few differences once you actually get into it. The restricted world with a closing circle, the many roguelike elements, the unpredictability of the enemies you will encounter, and plenty more. But most of all, it’s the pre-set characters.
Unlike the original where you would make your own character, Nightreign has you pulling from a selection of more focused characters. This time, we’re taking a look at Ironeye and the fact that he, finally, lets you manually aim a bow in a way that feels natural in a third-person game.
Overview Of Ironeye
Ironeye is all aboutkeeping your distance and sniping enemies from afar. While Ironeye will never be putting out the damage that a melee or even magic user will be using, they only rely on stamina, which you’ll always have plenty of. Plus, you never have to be at risk of getting hit like those melee users. It’s a win-win, even with a lower damage output.
Because of that though, Ironeye is definitely on the weaker end in terms of HP, and you’ll want to ensure you’re basically never getting hit. Nightreign also didn’t add any new bows, so there isn’t a massive amount of variety going on there. As such, you’ll want to pick up a melee back-up weaponto keep you safe from those enemies that do get close.
Ironeye demands a degree of awareness of your surroundings to use effectively.Keeping to high ground to avoid enemy strikes, always being on the move to always find a new vantage point. Using Ironeye is easy. It’s being aware of just where to stand to avoid enemies reaching you that’s the harder part.
Ironeye’s Traits
Like all other Nightfarers in the game,Ironeye comes with three unique traits- a Passive Ability, a Character Skill, and an Ultimate Art. With Ironeye focused on pinpoint precision above all else, his traits reflect that.
Passive Ability
Ironeye’s Passive Ability, humourously calledEagle Eye, is all about bolstering your finds. With it,enemies have a higher chance of dropping more and rarer items. Even better, this effect applies to the whole party, not just you, making it a boon for everyone to have Ironeye in the party.
Character Skill
Ironeye’s Character Skill isMarking. With this, he dashes towards the locked-on enemy, striking them with a knife and leaving a red mark behind. The skill itself deals a small amount of damage, but the mark that remains is the star of the show. When hitting it, it will deal more damage, and once you deal enough damage to the weak point, itwill automatically stagger the enemy.
This mark will remain as long as you keep hitting it, and your allies can see and hit it as well. The skill itself can also be used as a very effective dodge when necessary.
Ultimate Art
Ironeye’s Ultimate Art isSingle Shot, which is basically exactly what it says it is. You pull out a massive bow and let loose a single shot. This is a devastatingly powerful arrow, able to knock down most enemies, and stagger those it doesn’t. It’s real power is in how it ignores everything. Enemy resistances are ignored entirely during the attack, andit can pierce through every form of terrain. If you can lock on to the enemy, you can hit them.
The area-of-effect for Single Shot is also quite wide, able to catch multiple enemies and even downed allies. As such, this makes it very effective at defeating enemies and reviving your squad. You can also hold the ability for as long as you want, firing off Single Shot as soon as all the enemies have lined up.
Best Weapons To Use With Ironeye
Ironeye is obviously best with weapons, and this is in large part due to the high Dexterity stat they boast. On the flipside, this makes greatbows more ineffectual as they rely on more Strength, and locking you in place isn’t helpful with Ironeye’s small amount of HP. However, it does mean certain melee Dexterity weapons, such as thrusting swords and daggers, can still be quite useful in Ironeye’s arsenal.
Of particular note isIroneye’s B scaling in Arcane. This makes certain Incantations, namely those focused around blood, quite effective. This also means weapons that build up status ailments, such as katanas, can actually be quite helpful for Ironeye as back-up. Just remember that his FP pool is still quite low, and relying on weapon skills or spells is a no-go.
