It’s been a long time since the grand old days of King Arthur’s reign inTainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon, but unlike Arthur, there was no coming back for his fellow Knights of the Round Table or his other friends. Many are lost, but the most well-known have been laid to rest in special tombs made just for them, and sealed tight for their protection.
With the Wyrdness changing the landscape and shifting things, some of these hidden tombs have begun to show themselves, but there’s no normal way to unlock them. Only King Arthur himself – or someone possessing his spirit and fragments of memory – can open the tomb’s doors again.
Palamedes' Shield Tombs, Explained
As youexplore Cuanacht, you cancome across two different tombs– theTomb of Sir Gawainand theTomb of Sir Dagonet.
Unlike normal caves, crypts, and other locations, these tombs are forformer members of the Knights Of The Round Tableand otherimportant figures in Arthur’s circle.
Because of this, they canonly be openedif you’ve obtained thefragment of Arthur’s Soul from Palamedes' Shieldduring the main story, similar to thetombs in the Forlorn Swordsand theone in the Horns Of The South.
Once this portion of the main story is done, and you’veobtained Palamedes' Shield, you’ll now be able togo around to these different tombsand open them up byinteracting with the altar with the shield insigniaon it by the doorway.
The Tomb Of Sir Gawain
The Tomb of Sir Gawain islocated west of Cuanacht, the city, and can be found on a cliff above the river. Theeasiest wayto reach it is tostart at the Wyrdtower fast travel point, then gosouth down the roaduntil you find apath curving down to the cliffside, cross the small bridge, thenfollow the path downto the tomb.
If you’vemet Ó Cuinn Cinnamonsage on the island behind the beach where you first woke up after theIsland Asylum, you’ll find him next to this bridge now, and he’ll invite you to share his nearby home, the Cozy Cave, if you need it.
Interact with the altar outside, andwhen you enter, you willautomatically startthe side questHis Heart Was Greener Than Mine. Begin following the path, and you’llencounter some enemiesto fight as you make your way down: Curlghasts, and a few Dryads.
When youreach the large chamberat the bottom, there’ll be someMarrowghasts to fight, both blind and non-blind variants, and you canfind three chests. There’sone behind the tree, one on thehill above youneed to dig up, and another to dig upbeneath the staircase.
Jumpacross the broken bridgeandspeak toSir Bertilakin the circular room at the end of the hall. As part of the side quest, you’ll need tochallenge Sir Bertilak to a duel.
First, you’ll fight Sir Bertilak, and hefights similarly to Galahad, withpowerful two-handed strikes, a rangedmagic attack from his axe, atrio of fireballsas another ranged attack, and amagic shield that blocks and repels damage.
Once he’s defeated,Sir Gawain will awaken, and you’ll have tofight him next. He has asimilar moveset to Sir Bertilak, but much stronger, and hisregular attacks inflict poison, which can quicklychew threw your healthif youdon’t offset it by consuming food or with a potion.
After they’re dead and put to rest, you cantake the stairs behind Gawain’s throneto his actual crypt, andnext to it is a curving paththat will take youback to the entrance.
You canhave a conversation with King Arthur about Gawain at yournext fueled Bonfireafter completing the tomband His Heart Was Greener Than Mine.
Upon leaving, you’ll bevisited by Fionola, a member of theRoyal Geographers' Guild, and you canchoose to join them, though thisdoesn’t start a side quest with her.
The Tomb Of Sir Dagonet
The Tomb of Sir Dagonet islocated on the northern side of Cuanacht, and to find it, you’ll want tostart at either the Kamelot Gate fast travel pointor, if you haven’t found that yet, thePlains fast travel point.
From either of them, headsoutheast towards the large mountainformation that cuts through the region, following the main pathgoing to the eastthrough the gateand past theruins filled with Wyrdspawn.
Once youstart getting close to the Forlorn Swords Northern Gate, break away from the main path andveer off to the south, and follow thepartially hidden stairsup to thetomb in the cliff wall.
Inside, youwon’t automatically start a questthis time, but there’s still more to do. Dagonet’s tomb isfilled with all sorts of traps, and thefirst one is a fast-firing arrow trapon the wall.Run or slide past it, and you’ll get to along hallway.
Thefirst section doesn’t have any traps, but thenext part has two sections of wall arrow traps, and, like before, you’ll need torun or slide past themor risk dying from the arrows' high damage.
When youturn the corner at the endof the hallway, there’s going to be aflamethrower trap coming from a gargoyle statue, and all you need to do is wait for the pause in the flames before running around either side of it.
If you take thepath to the right past the gargoyle, there’s a hidden doorway in the wall that leads to a crypt area with an Undeadand a wall tunnel back to the gargoyle room.
Take thedoorway to the leftto continue, and one of thepaintings in the hall will fly off the walland try to damage you. At thebottom of the stairs, you’ll come to abranching pathway, with a center alcove with a casket you may loot.
Bothpaths lead to the same location, but havedifferent trapsto deal with. Theleft path features more wall arrow traps, while theright pathintroducesghostly hands that reach out from the paintingson the walls.
In the next room, there’s ahidden doorway in the wallthat leads to afatal drop, and thepath forwardis down the stairs andpast an Undead enemy.
The next trap is alarge swinging cleaver, and you canrun past itwhen it reaches either end of its path. Anotherpainting and some ghost hands will attempt to hurt younear the crypts with caskets on them, then goup the stairs, into the hole in the wall, andjump down the holeto the next floor.
There aremore swinging cleaversin the next hallway, and theymove faster than before. Run past the first two cleavers, keep close to thewider flooring on the rightside of the hall toavoid the pit, thenjump across to the bit of floorbefore the third cleaver, then run past it.
In the next room, there’s anotherhidden door on the rightwith a casket inside, then anotherpainting to dodge, and at thebottom of the room, you’ll have to go through ahidden door on the left to keep progressing.
Defeat the Lost Knight, then goup the stairsanddown into the main crypt. You canloot the Last Jet setfrom asack inside the crypt, which has Gloves, Doublet, Slippers, Cowl, and Breeches. Take theportal door at the endof the hall, and you’ll bereturned to the entrance.
Outside, you’ll haveanother conversation with Fionola, from whom you canget more information about Sir Dagonet, and she’llsuggest you continue searching for the other tombs.
