A major part ofRoadCraftis moving materials from one place to another. Cargo trucks are the vehicles for the job, but they can’t pick up resources on their own; instead, they need help from a crane. Loading a cargo truck efficiently is easier said than done, but if you’re patient and precise you can get much larger shipments moved in fewer trips.
It can take a few tries to get the hang of using cranes and cargo trucks in tandem, especially if you’re still learning the controls. If your first shipment is perplexing you, this guide has everything you need to know.
Preparing The Shipment
When you need to move resources somewhere, bring a cargo truck and mobile crane to a resource pickup locationand interact with it to take the necessary materials out of storage. If you’re missing any,use the crane to move them into storage firstor create a route from a Warehouse to the pickup spot if one is available.
You can also use the crane to just carry resources from the map to the truck one at a time, but it’smuch more efficientto store them, then load them all in one place.
Park the cargo truck on aflat surface with the handbrake engaged, near the resource stockpile, then switch to the mobile crane. Next, move the crane into a position where it canextend its arm to reach all of the cargo and the truckwithout moving, also on a flat surface. Once it’s positioned, deploy its anchorsto keep it in place while it’s moving objects.
Loading The Truck
Use the crane tomove objects into the cargo truck’s bed, one at a time.If you’re new to the game, the controls for raising and lowering the crane’s arm are easy to miss; on a mouse and keyboard, hold the left mouse button and press R to raise and F to lower the crane arm. On a controller, hold L1/LBand press up or down on the D-Pad.
While a payload is attached to the crane, you may adjust the length of the rope as well with the same buttons, but by holdingthe right mouse button or R1/RBinstead.
Carefully lower each item into the truck bed, instead of just dropping it in; that way, it is more likely to stay where you put it. The more objects you load the truck with, the harder it will become to get them all to stay, but this can depend on each item’s size, shape, and weight.
It’s best if everything can fit inside the truck bed, but some objects can also hang outside, as long as they fit. In this case, it’s best for them topoke over the rear of the cargo truckorrest on the roof of the cabin, as this makes it less likely that they’ll case the truck to tip over during transport.
Strapped Cargo
When you’re ready to move the loaded goods, switch back to the cargo truck. The only non-driving action that a cargo truck can take is tostrap and unstrap its cargo. In gameplay terms, strapping the cargo makes it allpart of the truck’s model; it won’t move around or fall out as you drive, but it will change the truck’s overall weight and center of gravity until it’s unstrapped. That’s why it’s important toload the truck as evenly as possible, or a sharp turn could cause the truck to tip!
Do Dump Trucks Work The Same As Cargo Trucks?
Unlike cargo trucks, dump trucks only need to interact with a nearby sand quarryto load up.The radius in which they can fill their bed is pretty wide, too, so they only need to be in the general vicinity, and don’t need help from another vehicle.
