Quick Links
Early on in your journey throughDune: Awakening, you’ll get access to a sub-fief. One of the key elements of gameplay that comes into effect when you first construct your base is power. You’ll need to make sure that your base stays powered, not just so that you can fabricate and refine materials, but also so you have a safe refuge to return to during sandstorms and other hazards.
But, powering your sub-fief effectively and consistently isn’t always so straightforward. So, if you’re looking for the best ways to keep your base powered, here’s everything you need to know to keep your sub-fief in peak condition.
How To Power Your Sub-Fief
When it comes to powering your sub-fief,the amount of power you need can change.
You can checkif your circuithas been overloaded or if you have enough fuel in your power sources at your sub-fief console.
For example, the more machines you havein your sub-fief,the more power you’ll needto operate them all.
To keep your sub-fief powered, you’ll need touse one of three different sources:
Each of these power sourcesoffers different types of benefits, which we’ll go into below, but they all do the same thing: keep your base’s shields up and machines running.
Fuel Generators
Fuel Generators arethe easiest and cheapestway to power your sub-fief, and the first method you’ll be taught how to use.
Fuel Generators generate 75 powerfor your sub-fief, andrequire Fuel Cells to be depositedinto them to continue running.
If youlaunch a Survey Probeinto the air,you can discover the locations of Fuel Cellsscattered throughout the map.
Fuel Generators are ultimatelyreally cheap to construct, and onlyrequire 45 pieces of Salvaged Metalto place. However, the downside to using Fuel Generators is thatyou have to constantly be refilling them.
By using your sub-fief console, you can see how many real-world days and hours your base will remain poweredbased on the amount of Fuel Cells you’ve deposited.
If you’re adding new machines to your base or expanding, the fastest way to avoid a circuit overloadis to quicklyconstruct a new Fuel Generatorand deposit some extra Fuel Cells.
Turbines
If you want to avoid having to constantly refill Fuel Generators, your next best bet for powering your base effectively isto construct Turbines.
There are two different types of Turbinesyou can construct in Dune: Awakening.
As you can see,Turbines have pros and cons. The big pro is that theygarner power automatically.
However, you are going to have to eventuallymake sure you have lubricant on handto keep them functioning.
In some ways, you’re trading one resource to farm for another. In this case, you’re trading Fuel Cells for lubricant.
However, if you can afford the Directional Turbine,350 power can make a huge difference in your sub-fief, as opposed to having to construct two to three Fuel Generators to achieve the same effect.
Spice-Powered Generator
Lastly, you can alsoconstruct a Spice-Powered Generatorto help power your sub-fief. This is far and awaythe most powerful generatorof the bunch, as it generates 1,000 power.
However, it is quite costly to construct, andstill requires you to deposit Fuel Cells. However, instead of normal Fuel Cells, you’ll need touse Spice-Infused Fuel Cells.
To make Spice-Infused Fuel Cells, you’ll need to gather Fuel Cells and Spice Residue, as well as construct a Medium Chemical Refinery.
This is quitea time-consuming process. However, in the long run, you’ll begenerating a substantial amount of power, making it far more effective than simply constructing ten different normal Fuel Generators.
Ultimately, when it comes to powering your base effectively, you’ll want tomake sure you’re using a variety of different sources. Stay versatile, and you’ll never have to worry about power again.
What Happens If You Don’t Power Your Sub-Fief
If you don’t power your sub-fief,there are a couple of key consequences.
When you run out of power, your base’s shields will go down, meaning that anyone can enter. This is obviously less than ideal.
What’s more, sandstorms will eventually wear down your base, meaning you’ll have to repair these structures once your base is powered up again.
Lastly, you won’t be able to use refineries, fabricators, or other machineswithout power.
Ultimately, powering your base is a matter of life and deathon Arrakis, so you’ll want to make sure you’re prioritizing it above all else.
