Mood is important, whether it’s in real life or a game, andUmamusume: Pretty Derbyreinforces this by having it as a key mechanic. Being in a good mood will help an Umamusume do her best in training and races, but a bad one will make everything harder, which is something we can all relate to.
As a Trainer, it’s part of your job to help your trainees excel in their races, and you may’t just ignore them being in a terrible mood unless both of you want to reap the consequences of it. We’ll tell you what Moods you can expect, their benefits or penalties, and how to keep your Trainee in high spirits.
All Moods And What They Mean
AnUmamusume’s Moodis one ofseveral important mechanicsyou need to keep track ofwhile Trainingthem inbetween races in Career Mode.
Moodaffects how good the result of their Training will be, and whether they’llhave any bonuses or deductions from their stats while racing, so having agood mood is a massive boon.
Apositive mood increases the Stats gained during Training, provides bonuses to Friendship gained with Umamusume from Support Cards, andincreases Stats during a race, while anegative mood does the opposite: theirStat gain will be lowered, and theirstats will get a small penalty during the race.
Bonuses Or Penalties From It
Great
Increases Stat Gain from Training by 20 percent and increases Stats during a Race by 4 percent.
Good
Increases Stat Gain from Training by 10 percent and increases Stats during a Race by 2 percent.
No increase or decrease in Stat Gain or Stats.
Bad
Reduces Stat Gain from Training by 10 percent and reduces Stats during a Race by 2 percent.
Awful
Reduces Stat Gain from Training by 20 percent and reduces Stats during a Race by 4 percent.
Not only does Mood affect your Trainee during her races, but thesame applies to other Umamusume you face up againstduring races, so youcan take advantage of others having a low Mood.
Rival Umamusume and those with notable names are more likely to be in a good Mood in G2 and above races, even if you’re using Alarm Clocks to have another chance, while non-notable Umamusume are less likely to be in a good mood.
Even if anUmamusume has slightly lower statsthan her opponents, hergood Mood can mean she’ll still get first placeor at leastrank high enough to succeed in her Goals, especially in the early races.
How To Improve An Umamusume’s Mood
While an Umamusume’sMood can go up or downwhen differentrandom events occur during Training, similar to how they can havegood or bad Conditions, there’s a way toguarantee an improvement to their Mood.
During Training, you’ll always have theoption to go on Recreation, and this is how toimprove an Umamusume’s Mood. Each time you go, it willimprove their Mood by one stage, but theone downsideto this is that ittakes up a whole Turn, so you won’t get any Training done, andminimal Energy is recovered.
Recreation can alsolead to different mini-game eventsoccurring, such as theCrane Game, whichrewards you with collectible items, anadditional Mood increase, andhints for new skills.
Unless you need the extra Stats, try to go on a Recreation right before the day of a race to improve an Umamusume’s Mood and boost her chancesagainst the upcoming racers.
Despite it costing a Turn, it’sincredibly important to take care of a negative Mood, and if an Umamusume gets one, you’ll want totake care of it as soon as possibleandat leastget them back to Normalso it won’t negatively affect their Training or Races.
