InDune: Awakening, your sub-fief is your primary source of drinking water while on Arrakis. Sure, you can store some water and even recycle your own sweat using your Stillsuit, but you’re going to want to make sure you have a steady supply of water in your sub-fief as well. Plus, you’ll need water to craft more advanced gear and tech.

One of the best ways to store water in your sub-fief is by researching and constructing the windtrap. This structure allows you to collect water from the environment, even when you’re not home. Here’s how to unlock and construct the windtrap.

How To Unlock The Windtrap

The windtrap is relativelyeasy to unlockonce you have the right amount of Intel. You’llfind the schematic under Steel Productsin your Water Discipline research tab.

Before setting out to construct the windtrap, make sure you’ve already constructed a Survival Fabricatoras well, as you’ll need this later on.

From there, the windtrap costs five Intelto research.

Keep in mind, you’ll have had to progress out of the South Hagga Basintutorial area of Dune: Awakening and completed that step of your journeybefore you can research and eventually construct the windtrap.

How To Construct The Windtrap

Unlike many of the earlier game sub-fief machines, the windtrap is a bit harder to constructand requires a decent amount of materials.

Found at various Intel bases throughout the map.

There aremany Calibrated Servoksscattered throughout Jabal Eifrit Al-janub.

Keep in mind, you’ll also need plenty of water stored in your sub-fiefto refine Steel Ingot, so take your Dew Reaper with you when you start harvesting.

Once you’ve gone hunting for the proper resources and refined both your Silicone Blocks and Steel Ingots, you’ll be ready to construct a wind trap.

How To Use The Windtrap

When you’re ready, grab your construction tool and head to the Utilities tabto construct the windtrap. Place the structure outside, but within your landclaim.

From there, you’ll also need touse a Survival Fabricator to construct filters.

Luckily, makeshift filters are relatively cheapto fabricate. Some of the other filters can be a bit more costly, however.

The windtrapconsumes makeshift and standard filters.

Standard

Use your Survival Fabricator to fabricate one of these filters, and then insert it into the windtrap. You’ll have to replenish these filters every once in a while to keep the windtrap going and collecting water while you’re gone.

Windtraps consume a decent amount of power, so you may also need to construct another generator to get it going.

Once you’ve inserted the filters, the windtrap will slowly collect water, even when you’re not at home in your sub-fief. You can then use this water as part of your circuit capacity for the purposes of crafting or to drink.
