How To Start The Malacath Quest

All Daedric quests need you to be at a certain level to start them, and most of them need you to have an offering for the shrine. To start the Malacath quest, you’ll need to beat least level ten. You will also need tohaveTroll Fatto offer to the shrine, or else Malacath won’t give you the quest.

Where To Find Malacath’s Shrine

To get to Malacath’s Shrine, you’ll want to travel to Anvil. The shrine is located to thenorth-northwest of Anvil, a way above the ‘T’ in ‘The Gold Coast’ on the map. The area in-between Anvil and the shrine might have leveled enemies around, so keep that in mind when traveling there.

Where To Find Troll Fat

At level ten, you will beencountering trolls all around the mapas a leveled enemy, so you canloot Troll Fat from them. You can alsoget Troll Fat from alchemy vendorssince they have a chance to sell it. If they don’t, then you can wait outside their shop for three days to reset their inventory.

How To Complete The Malacath Quest

Once you have the troll fat, go to the shrine and interact with it. Malacath will give youthe task of rescuing his ogresfrom a person who’s been enslaving them to work on a mine. He’ll instruct you togo to Lord Drad’s Estate, which is to thesoutheast of the shrine. There you’ll find a large house with a farm.

Go inside Lord Drad’s Estate andtalk to Lord Drad,and ask him about the Ogre Slaves. He won’t budge about using them for his mines, so you’ll need to talk to his wife next, Lady Drad.

Talk to Lady Dradand choose the Ogre Slaves dialogue option. She will only open up to you if you have adisposition of 70 or higherwith her. She’ll tell you that the Ogres are being forced to work at the nearbyBleak Mine just east of the estate.

The entrance to the Bleak Mine is locked; you’ll need to unlock it through lockpicking or spells. You alsosteal the Bleak Mine Key, which is on thefirst floor of Lord Drad’s Estate, to the left, when you enter the house on top of a table next to a bench.

When you enter the Bleak Mine, you’ll facemultiple Bleak Mine Guards, including a captain. They will all haveleveled heavy armor and weapons, so be ready for a fight. The mine itself is small; avoid fighting them all at once, or you can get overwhelmed easily.

Once you’ve cleared the mine of the guards, you’re able to thenloot the keys from their bodies. These keys will help youunlock the cages and free the Ogresfrom the mine. You can also unlock them through magic or lockpicking if you don’t want to pick up the keys and instead level your skills.

How To Get Volendrung

Once you’ve freed the Ogres and the quest updates, you’re able to go back to the Shrine of Malacath. He will congratulate you on completing the quest and willreward you with the Daedric artifactVolendrung.

Volendrung is a two-handed blunt Warhammer that has an on-hit enchantment thatparalyzes a target for three secondsanddrains five points of their health for 20 seconds. This is a great weapon for those who mainly use blunt weapons and have a high blunt skill.
