Osmium is a dark blue, crystalline mineral inThe Planet Crafter. It is a rare and essential resource, crucial for crafting advanced equipment such as the T2 and T3 Jetpack, the T4 Drill, and the T4 Ore Extractor.
Acquiring Osmium requires specific techniques and careful exploration. You gain access to more Osmium and ways to get it as you progress through the game. Because it’s not as common as other minerals, you will need to play strategically by watching for ice cave melts, upgrading ore extractors, and even braving meteor events to secure enough for endgame terraforming.
Where To Find Osmium
Osmium deposits can be found in caves, mining by hand, or by a T2 Ore Extractor or higher. Additionally, Osmium can occasionally be found inTreasure Crates scattered throughout the map, or underwater as lakes begin to form. As you progress, meteor showers may also deposit Osmium on the surface and give you another opportunity to collect this valuable resource.
Use yourJetpack to reach elevated terrainwhere Osmium deposits and Treasure Crates can spawn. If you don’t like the current Jetpack, you’re able to always try a moddedBetter Jetpack.
Treasure Crates
Treasure Crates are blue, metal footlockers that are scattered throughout the map. They look almost identical to player Storage Crates, and can befound in wrecks and bunkers.
Treasure Crates, along with their rarer golden counterpart, Golden Crates, are filled with random items, including osmium, that are useful in the early game before accessing Ice Caves.
Osmium Caves
Osmium is primarily found in Ice Caves, which areinitially inaccessible due to ice barriers. As youincrease the planet’s heat level, these barriers melt, granting access to the caves. Important Osmium cave entrances, with coordinates, include:
There are alsotwo mixed mineral cavesin The Planet Crafter with Osmium. AnOsmium-Pulsar Quartz cavenearcoordinates 973:43:-975, and anOsmium-Iridium cavearoundcoordinates 328:4:-181.
Icy terrain generally melts at 100 nk (nanokelvin), while some melt at 45 µK (microkelvin).
Some cave resources can be mined with just a Tier 1 Ore Extractor, whileothers require Tier 2or higher. Not every cave allows an extractor, though.
Some don’t have enough flat ground or soil to support one at all. In those cases, you’ll need to collect the materials manually. Just keep in mind, once you clear out the resources by hand, they’re gone for good.
Osmium Meteor Events
Occasionally, Meteor Events spawn ingame andrain mineral-rich meteorson the surface. An Osmium meteor showercan trigger at 700 MTi(Mega Terraformation Index) or higher, and bathes the entire planet in a blue hue. The resulting meteoritesspawn a handful of osmiumand sulfur drops.
