Elden Ring Nightreignhas made some major changes to FromSoftware’s itemization to make this game function closer to a roguelike. Items are now tiered based on rarity, making certain S-tier weapons in vanilla Elden Ring a fairly rare sight in Nightreign. If you want to unlock certain achievements or make your runs easier, you’ll need to find them.
Fortunately, getting your hands on legendary gear isn’t too taxing if you know where to look. Today, we’ll be going over how legendary items work in Nightreign and all legendary gear currently in the game. We’ll also give some tips on how to get legendary gear in all of your runs.
What Are Legendary Weapons?
Legendary weapons areorange-rarity weapons that are an extremely rare drop from open world encounters, predominantly boss fights. The drop rate of legendary gear is incredibly low in Nightreign, although it seems thatthe difficulty of the boss correlates with its drop rarity. For example, field bosses are more likely to drop legendary items than bosses found in forts or caves. It’s not impossible to get drops from these sources; it’s just unlikely.
Nightreign has26 legendary weaponsas of launch, including some weapons that were consideredlegendary armaments in mainline Elden Ring. If you see any of these items as an encounter reward, be sure to take them.

How To Get Legendary Weapons
You can get a legendary weapon asa reward from chests and end-of-encounter rewards, although the drop chance for legendary gear is exceedingly low. There are two ways you can influence the drop rate of legendary gear:
Item discoveryis a stat on certain talismans, weapon affixes, and consumable items—notably the Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot. These items increase the rarity of items found in the world, making it more likely you’ll find legendary items as end-of-encounter rewards or from chests. If you can boost your item discovery through any means, it will have a drastic impact on drop quality.
Improving Boss Drops
Churches of Marika will always drop a Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot, a consumable item that increases item discovery for a short duration. Use one just before killing a boss to improve their item quality. If you do this before killing a field boss, there’s a good chance you’ll get a legendary item in the reward pool.
While not outright confirmed, there seems to be a correlation between enemy level and drop rarity.Enemies in harder zones and tougher bosses are more likely to drop legendary gear. For example, the rarest bosses in Evergaols are the Ancient Dragon, Godskin Duo, and the Death Rite Bird. These enemies also seem to have the highest chance of dropping legendary gear.
Beyond those two factors, there are some other ways to influence legendary drops:
Boss Drops
From our experience, it seems thatfield bosses and high-level boss fights are more likely to drop legendaries. Most legendaries we’ve encountered in Limveld were fromslain bosses inshifting earthtilesets or difficult field bosses—all dragon variants, Nox Dragonkin, etc. Item discovery also affects drops, so be sure to pop a Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot before killing a tough boss to improve your odds.
Crafting A Legendary
Crafting a legendary is only possible if shifting earth is set to ‘Crater.’
If your match has a volcanic tileset present near the middle of the map, you have the ability to turn any non-legendary item into a legendary of the same type. For example, if you have a non-legendary sword, using this crafting bench will turn that item into a legendary sword. You may only use this technique once per game; choose your weapon wisely.
To access this legendary bench,go to the crater tileset and look for a massive temple. It’ll be around the southwest corner near the lower floor. Fight your way through the temple until you reach the Magma Wyrm boss. Defeat the boss, then interact with the altar they were guarding to upgrade your weapon to legendary quality.
