Lies Of P: Overturebrings a whole host of new content to the beloved Soulslike, and we aren’t just talking bosses here: you will also be able to get your hands on two new Legion Arms. Not only do both of these provide some novel new tools to play around with, but they are easily some of the best Legion Arms in the game.
This guide will cover which Legion Arms are available, how to unlock them, and break down their individual upgrades. In short, we will tell you everything you need to know about these new Legion Arms introduced in Lies Of P: Overture.
How Do I Get The Genius’s Legion Plugs?
Since there are two Legion Arms in the game, it shouldn’t be surprising that there are exactly two Genius’s Legion Plugs to locate. The first of these is only missable if you skip a midboss battle, as you will be rewarded with it for defeating the second elephant inthe Krat Zoo area(it is the elephant that transforms mid-battle). You’ll encounter this foe immediately after hitting the Jungle Zone Walkway Stargazer.
As for thesecondGenius’s Legion Plug, that one is alittlestickier. After you defeat theTwo-Faced Overseer boss, the next Stargazer you encounter will be theErgo Mining Site Stargazer. From here, take a right and head straight until you find a boardwalk that circles the arena. You will, of course, need to fight through a few robots.
Head down that path until you are standing in a pool of water. There is a safe withthe Genius Cylinder inside in the corner of this room. However, there is also a tough mining robot miniboss that will burst out of the wall that you will need to fight off as well.
Before you progress too far into the room, you should probably open the shortcut which is on the left side of this room. That will make backtracking easier in case you die.
Defeating The Land Mine Robot Miniboss
The thing to keep in mind for this battle is that the midboss gives you a fairly large number of openings to attack. Every time they lunge at you, or place a mine down, you will be able to get a swipe in. Additionally, if it is in range, its own landmines will damage it. So, feel free to trigger a mine and dash away as you are being pursued. Just keep the pressure up, and you will eventually overcome this foe, and be able to claim the second Genius’s Legion Plug!
Both of the new Legion Arms work well against this miniboss. Icarus will eat it up when they stuck planting a mine, and the Cataclysm allows you to dish out damage while pushing you back, helping you retreat.
A Note On Upgrading The New Legion Arms
While you need a special plug (the Genius’s Legion Plug) to unlock Cataclysm and Icarus, they are upgraded with the same materials as all your other Legion Arms. That means you can simply speak to the golden coin tree and reset one of your other Legion Arms to get all the materials necessary to upgrade these arms to their max level.
Description
Strengthen Blade
After receiving a returning blade, your next throw will be more powerful.
Increases the maximum number of saw blades at your disposal to 2
Double Reload
Gives you the ability to launch two blades at once.
Increases the maximum number of saw blades at your disposal to 3
Rotate Throw
Use a Fable Charge to fire off all four blades at the same time in all directions.
Increases the maximum number of saw blades at your disposal to 4
The first of the two Legion Arms we’ll look at is Icarus. Even without upgrading it, Icrarus is a great tool for attacking clustered groups of enemies and large foes with massive hitboxes. However, once you have upgraded this weapon twice, and havethe ability to throw two blades at once, this Legion Arm becomes extremely useful. It can mow down large groups. If you havea bottleneckat your disposal, ora tight corridor, Icarus is obscenely powerful. Similarly, giant bosses are eaten up by this attack.
However, in an odd twist, the final upgrade doesn’t feel nearly as useful, as the blades scatter all around, dealing damage to everyone, but not nearly as much as two blades concentrated on one target. Honestly, I didn’t find much use for the Rotate Throw upgrade ability, outside of having a fourth saw blade, of course.Icarus pairs particularly well with spears, as the blades will swarm a location, not an enemy. So, if the enemy you’ve targeted walks out of range, you may poke them right back into the swirling blades.
Counterattack
Landing a Cataclysm shot on an attacking enemy will deal substantially more damage.
Allows you to charge your Cataclysm while dodging.
Perfect Reload
Release your charged blast when P flashes white to unleash an incredibly powerful shot.
Cataclysm is, in short, a powerful shotgun. Even without asingleupgrade, you can disrupt attacks, and deal substantial damage with a fully-charged Cataclysm shot. Of course, it only gets better from there. You will eventually get the ability to increase that damage greatly by using the Cataclysm to interrupt a foe’s attack. Additionally, the final upgrade allows you to further increase the power of a Cataclysm shot by timing the white flash.
This works the same as theThe Royal Horn Bow.
And if you are wondering, yes, all of these upgrades stack. So, if you manage to perfectly time a Cataclysm shot as a counterattack, you will deal otherworldly damage. I managed to take close to a quarter of a boss’s health bar by doing this. Obviously, it isn’t easy to do, but the reward is truly glorious.
Which Of The Two New Legion Arms Should I Upgrade First?
The truth is that both of these Legion Arms are excellent. In the early game, I gravitated more toward the Cataclysm, as it hits so incredibly hard. However, a number of the bosses you fight are big-bodied, andthe Icarus Legion Arm absolutely dices big bosses up. So, I think that is probably the better first investment, as it will help you beat early bosses like theTyrannical Predator.
Of course, your build will also likely affect your decision. Icarus is more balanced, scaling with both Motivity and Technique (BMotivity,BTechnique), while the Cataclysm primarily scales with Motivity (AMotivity,CTechnique).
