You can date everything inDate Everything, just like the game says you can. There are some limitations, sure, but probably a lot less than you’d think. The floor you walk on, the food in your fridge, your very shadow. All of it open to love and affection, or even hatred if you really can’t stand them.

But in that same vein, what’s to say the items in your house can’t fall in love either? Or hate each other? Or hell, both at the same time. Sounds complicated? That’s Dirk and Harper. Turns out dirty clothes and the hamper you store them in get into a toxic relationship when they have to spend that much time together.

Are Dirk And Harper Two Different Characters?

There are quite a few Dateables in the same that are two or more people, but are still classed as a single one. Curt and Rod, Volt and Eddie, the Hanks, and so on. That is not the case with Dirk and Harper. Despite both being found in the same place, they aretwo different characters with unique entries in the Date-a-Dex.

This is because the actions you take with them can change how their own relationship goes, and your own with them as well. With all other characters, they come as a package deal. Not so with Dirk and Harper. That toxicity they exude keeps them inseparable, yet not quite fully. There is enough of a wedge there thatyou can drive them apart. And so, they are two different people.

Telling dirk and harper they’re both wrong in date everything.

If you do make the choice to break them up,they can both also be found in different locations from one another, letting them truly exist as two different people.

Should You Break Up Dirk And Harper?

A Brief Overview

From the moment you meet Dirk and Harper, it will become incredibly obvious that they are not happy. Or rather, they’re not satisfied. They are textbook toxic, shouting each other down with every little nitpick and absurd accusations. And then they are deeply affectionate a sentence later because no one else gets it like they do. It’s exhausting even just watching it.

As you take turns speaking with them, you’ll get into the nitty-gritty of just what happened in their relationship.Harper was with a chapstick before, Chappy, that was brief before his untimely demise in an accidental washing machine disaster on your part. Remember to always remove your chapstick from your pockets before washing.

With Chappy gone so soon, he became the ideal of a relationship to Harper, and Dirk faces the backlash of that. ‘Chappy used to do this, why can’t you be more like this, Chappy used to do this for me’, and endlessly comparison to a chapstick she barely knew for a few days. It is a beating he must endure every day.

Yet he plays into it, even he can admit it. Instead of leaving, he lets her be tormented, feeds into her twisted narratives that he’s cheating. It brings him joy because he knows exactly where he can hurt her most. It is must cruel. But clearly, they are unwilling to do anything themselves. They’re stuck in limbo and your input is the only thing that will solve it.

So should you? Should you try to get them to improve, or finally end this once and for all? While that choice ultimately falls to you, them being separate is undeniably a better outcomethan anything else.

Breaking Up Dirk And Harper

For the sake of everyone’s well-being,their relationship needs to be ended. Harper can’t help but live in ideals, and Dirk can’t get past his own issues of needing some support in life, even if he helps destroy it himself. Doing this, thankfully, isn’t that hard. While you can’t choose which of the pair you want to speak with at any given time, they will alternate with each conversation.

All you have to do is highlight their differences, and at times be direct and tell them to just break up. There will be no singular moment for you to make the choice. Rather,it is a culmination of the choices you make along the wayasserting that they should be separate. And in the end, Harper still isn’t quite amenable to the choice. It’s Dirk that has to make the choice, for the betterment of them both. But at least she lets him go.

From this point on, both Dirk and Harper will act as different characters. Harper will remain at the clothes hamper in the Laundry Room, whileDirk will change quite a bit. Turns out that relationship was holding him back more than expected.

How To Change Your Relationship Status With Dirk And Harper

Dirk and Harper are initially one-and-the-same. Two different characters, but joined at the hip. And if you keep them together, this remains the same, andtheir endings with you, be it Love, Friends, or Hate, are linkedas well.

If you do break them up both, they become independent characters, and you can get different endings with both of them, too. Since so much of their own relationship can change based on your choices, the way their individual endings work is a bit different, and quite a bit simper. Here’s all of them:

Dirk

After breaking up this unhappy pair, Dirk is no more. Literally. Clean and tidy away from Harper,he can now be found as the folded clothes in your room.

As Clarence Couture.

Love

To get a Love ending with Clarence, the new Dirk, it’sas easy as choosing that option. You must also love his body pillow, though.

Friends

Being friends with Clarence is once againas simple as choosing the option. Maybe for the best if you want to stay away from everything with him and Harper.

Hate

If you just really want to get past all of this weirdness and make sure it never comes back to haunt you, feel free to say you hate Dirkand this new ‘Clarence’ personality.

Harper

As you’ve likely picked up, Harper is obsessive, to an incredibly unhealthy degree. After you’ve broken her and Dirk up, you’ll notice thatshe doesn’t really give you much choice in the ending you get.

When you chat with Harper after breaking her and Dirk up, you will be presented with three choices. If her intensity is something you’re into, thengo ahead and fall in love with her. She has no problem doing the same. Even though you did just break her and her boyfriend up.

You know the analogy, “I could change her”? You can’t change Harper. Try andchoose to be friends. She will immediately run off and get a friendship tattoo, which just so happens to be a heart. Turns out, she doesn’t actually know what a friend is.

You hate Harper? Then choose that ending. Guess what? She hates you too. But she loves you, too. Just like Dirk.

There’s no strict singular happy ending here, but anything different is a step in the right direction for this pair.
