One of the main problems you can face inRimworldis feeding your colony. Depending on your settings, you might begin with a nice cache of meals, but those soon run out, and if you’re beginning with nothing, you’ll need to find a food sourcequickly. There’s farming and hunting, of course, but there’s also a wide open world of an alternative supply.
I’m talking, of course, about the sea. And lakes, and rivers, and even ponds. Fish are an easily-tapped food supply for any colony (as long as they have access to a body of water!) and makes for a great thing to focus on in the early hours of a game.
How To Unlock Fishing
Fishing isn’t always available by default: you’ll first need to research it. Depending on the start (such asTribalstarts), you may have it unlocked already though.
To research Fishing, you’ll need tobuild a Research Tableand then commence theFishing projectfrom the Research menu. It’s located in the second column of the menu and costs only research 600 points, so it should be done quickly, even if you don’t have a highly skilled researcher. This has no prerequisites, so you’re able to do this as soon as you have a Research Table.
How To Fish
Researching the Fishing technology will unlock theFishing Zone, which is next to the Growing Zone in the Zone section of the Architect menu. Dragging this over a body of water will designate it a fishing area; from then on,pawns who are assigned to the Hunt activity can use this area for fishing.
When a pawn completes a fishing activity, they will usually fish up abundle of fish, which can then be stored as raw meat. Other items can also be fished up rarely, such as carcasses or even rare items.
Clicking on the Fishing Zone will let you examine it a bit closer and evenset fish population minimums, showing you how many fish (and which varieties of fish) are currently living within the zone. It’s important to make sure you have a healthy population of fish inside the zone to avoid depopulation, which would make the Fishing Zone useless.
If you’re not expecting to stay in this area forever and simply need food, however, feel free to fish out an entire lake’s worth of fish!
