The people of Cuanacht aren’t doing so well inTainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon. Not only is the Red Death making people ill, but Kamelot wants them to leave their homes and take their Menhir too. If that wasn’t bad enough, the Wyrd draws ever closer, and even the farmlands grow dangerous.
A well that used to hold water is now producing strange noises, and few want to go near it, let alone check what the noise is. Maybe a Strawchild got stuck inside, or perhaps it’s just natural noises that sound frightening. It’s up to you to check it out, and what you find in the well’s depths might surprise you.
How To Find The Haunted Well
To start theBrotherly Love side quest, you’ll need to start at theFarmlands section of Cuanacht, which can be found in thenorthwestern region of the city, past the lower area containing the Bounty Board and the Prison.
Go to thefirst house on the rightpast the fast travel beacon, andspeak with Eda, who can either be found justoutside the house during the dayor inside once it’s started getting dark.
You can alsoget the misc quest Grasping At Straws from Eda if you ask her about anything you can do, which leads to afight with a Strawfather and a potential achievement.
If youask her about the surrounding area, she’ll tell you about asupposedly hauntedwellthat has been making some strange noises. After you finish talking to her, headfurther northwest across the fields, and you’ll find thewell next to the road, along with a group ofStrawchildren hiding in the grass.
Walk up to the well, and you’ll get aprompt to interact with it, leading you inside. Swim to the water’s surface and over to thesmall island with a wooden bridge, then cross over the planks andjump to the main part of the cave.
How To Defeat The Nuckelavee In The Well
Follow thetrail of bloodup and thenjump down to a large cavern, and you’llfind a Nuckelaveeinside. It isn’t a boss, but it hashigh HPand canput out a lot of damagebetween its melee attacks and its range of poison-dealing attacks.
It will alternate between spitting arain of spit that leaves clouds of poison gason the ground, aprojectile spit similar to a Drowner, and aleaping bite, and it’llfrequently jump backwardsas a way to keep its distance.
Ataround half health, the Nuckelavee willpause and do a ritual to buff its damage, but it will alsoleave itself vulnerable, so take that opportunity toget some good hitsbefore backing away.
As long as youkeep your HP recovering with some food itemslike Cabbage Rolls andavoid the poison clouds, the Nuckelavee won’t pose much of a problem. Once it’s dead,loot its bodyto obtain theOrnate Belt Buckleto progress the quest, and make sure tograb the Nuckelavee’s Swordfrom it as well, as itdoes good damage, has a unique look to it, andsells for around 200 Gold.
If youswim under the small arch, away from the exit, you can find a large mineable rock, and breaking it reveals a chamber containing a Reinforced Chestthat contains some Coins and loot like Splash Concoctions.
Jumpinto the water pooland swim down through theopening near the bottom of the rocks, then follow theunderwater tunneluntil you canswim to the surfaceagain.
Climb the stairs andfollow the lit tunnel to an exit. You’ll come outbeneath a bridge at the edge of the Farmlands, and you can climb the bank of the pond and go back to the farms.
Who To Give The Belt Buckle To
Head back towards the entrance to the Farmlands, andfind a man named Rob, who’s usuallyoutside the large house on the left across from Eda’sthat has two horses named Clover and Daisy in a pen beside it. If heisn’t outside, you’ll need togo into the house and witness the scenebetween Rob and his brother, Gil.
If youhaven’t gotten a mount yet,you can also purchase Daisy from Robfor either 300 or 250 Gold, depending on whether you pass a Perception checkor not.
Speak with him, andselect the dialogue optionstalking about hischildhood memories and Gilfirst, which willunlock one about his grandfather. From here, there aretwo waysto go about finding the truth. You canconfront Gil alongside Rob, or you may finish the dialogue with Rob andtalk to Gil alone.
Talking withGil will bring out the truthof what happened, and whichever option you pick, you’ll need tolet at least three in-game days pass, either using a Bonfire or just by letting time pass.
After that, you’re able to go back andspeak to Rob for an update, completing the quest for areward of 1,700 EXPand theHard Back amulet, whichincreases your Encumbrance Limit by 45.
