Doom: The Dark Agesis surprisingly lacking in challenging boss battles throughout most of its lengthy campaign, opting to leave the most creative and unexpected encounters until the final few chapters. It’s all about ripping and tearing with absolute abandon, as id Software aims to deliver a power fantasy like few other games can.

However, when it does deliver hard-as-nails battles like the Kreed Maykr, it doesn’t miss a beat. This encounter towards the end of the main story has multiple forms and asks players to use every single tool at their disposal to emerge victorious. That means moving quickly as he covers the arena with projectiles, parrying fast-moving attacks, and preserving through an onslaught of unpredictable tactics. Here’s how to best take him down.

The Slayer prepares to confront the Kreed Maykr in Doom: The Dark Ages.

Kreed Maykr Boss Fight Overview

Doom Slayer has been dealing with the Kreed Maykr throughout the entire campaign.A big and bulbous alien overlord who commands armies of angelic beings from the shadows, too afraid to do his dirty work in fear of being hurt. The story opens with our hero under the direct control of the Maykrs, an enchantment in his armour imprisoning him.

Shield bashes and melee attacksare incredibly effective throughout this entire fight, especially in the second phase when Maykr is without his armour.

But the Maykrs aren’t immortal, and soon we are able to turn the tables on the Kreed Maykr as we fly directly onto his ship, murder his subordinates, and confront him atop his home as a storm begins to form overhead.

How To Defeat The Kreed Maykr - Phase One

After you walk into the boss room and confront the Maykr,he will begin the encounter after floating atop his chair by firing a series of yellow orbs at you. These can be dodged like all normal attacks bystrafing around the arenato ensure they don’t hit you.

Stay on your guard, however, since shortly after this basic manoeuvre, he will unleash upon youan electrified orb with barriers on all four sides alongwith an area-of-effect zone thrown onto the ground. Step away from its radius and use yourShield Sawto destroy it.

Once destroyed, the Kreed Maykr will be stationary and open to a brief onslaught. Take on your weapon of choice and start blasting, although I’dopt for something with a faster rate of fire and high damage outputrather than something with a wider spread.

You can deal minor damage to the Kreed Maykr whenever you like, but it’s moments like this that provide the best opportunity to dish it out in larger servings.

The boss will cycle through these attack patterns at a predictable rate while alsobringing in weaker enemies to distract you. You can take these down in seconds, and doing so with the right tools will also provide you withextra health, armour, and ammunition.

Kreed Maykr will also beginfiring out an orb attack from above his head, which can be parried with the correct timing, once again leaving him in a vulnerable state for dealing out punishment.

As the battle progresses, Kreed Maykr will begincombining certain attacks or switching up orbs with explosive projectiles that can either be blocked or dodged. Remain loyal to the strategy described above, and you’ll be fine, andtry to fill up the boss’s stagger gauge so you can get up close and personal for a deadly melee attack.

Mob enemies will continue to spawn as the battle becomes more complicated, so try your best to keep on top of them.

Once their health bar is drained by a quarter of its full value, the Kreed Maykr will start using a new attack in which it spawnsa series of yellow spikesfrom the ground and sends them all firing towards the player.Dodge these by strafing and getting closer to the Maykr to deal with the energy shield that now surrounds him. Do so and he’ll be briefly stunned, fail, and the attacks will repeat themselves.

Upon reachinghalf health, the Maykr will now gain the ability tofire three projectiles at once, making it paramount that you are strafing, dodging, and blocking as much as possible.Spike attacks will also be followed up by massive orbs now, which blow out towards the slayer and can’t be blocked, so move around them.

This is as complicated as the first phase becomes, so keep it up until the Maykr is backed into a corner and a cutscene begins to play out.

How To Defeat The Kreed Maykr - Phase Two

The second phase takes us to the roof of Kreed Maykr’s ship as he begs for his life before stripping off his angelic clothing to reveal the true slug form that lies beneath. Now it’s time to beat the living crud out of him.

Four bright yellow walls will spawn around youas the boss floats into the air and starts using the sameyellow spike attacksfrom the first phase. Strafe around them and keep on trying to deal damage and break his defenses.Green projectile attacks will fire between rounds which can be parriedfor extra resources and small slivers of damage.

Kreed Maykr Boss Guide

Remember that the walls that surround you will continue moving, and you’ll need to try to keep up with them.

The yellow walls will eventually come down as the Maykrbegins to zip around a much larger arena and deal out many of the same attacksfrom the initial phase, albeit with a couple new moves such as projectiles that rain down from above, although symbols on the ground help to telegraph where to avoid them.

During this part of the encounter, my advice is touse melee attacks and shield bashes as much as possible. Not only do they deal decent damage, they alsoadd hugely to Maykr’s stagger gaugeand open them up to effective finishing attacks.

The remainder of the battle follows a similar pattern with the exception that attacks will come thicker and faster than ever before. But stay on top of things and you’ll come out victorious.
