Introduced in Patch 7.25 ofFinal Fantasy 14, Phantom Weapons are the Relic Weapons available for Dawntrail. Historically, Relic Weapons are powerful and flashy weapons that have tons of grind involved to acquire them, with new steps in the crafting process released at certain intervals throughout the expansion’s endgame patches.
Phantom Weapons will require you to take a deep dive into the Occult Crescent, a Field Operation that debuted alongside the weapons. Below, we’ll take a look at everything you need to know about unlocking and upgrading your own Phantom Weapons.
How To Unlock The Phantom Weapons Quest
Before you can start your Phantom Weapon, you’ll need to unlock the Occult Crescent. This is done through the quest’One Last Hurrah', which can be started by speaking toExpedition Messenger in Tuliyollal (X:17.1, Y:11.8).
Follow this chain of quests until you complete’Unfamiliar Territory’and unlock exploration of the South Horn of the Occult Crescent. At this point, you can then accept’Arcane Artistry’fromLydirceil in the Phantom Village (X:6.6, Y:7.1)to begin the first step of the Phantom Weapon questline.
Phantom Weapon Penumbrae
Arcane Artistry
The first step in the Phantom Weapons questline will reward you with anitem level 745 Phantom Weapon Penumbrae. The initial quest for this step isArcane Artistry, which tasks you with gatheringthree each of six kinds of Demiatma, or 18 in total. These can be obtained either fromFates and Critical Encounters within The Occult Crescent: South Horn, orFates in Dawntrail zones.

Alternatively, you can get Demiatma by completing Fates in certain Dawntrail zones. Here’s which zone drops which Demiatma.

Demiatma are relatively rare drops, so it’s not uncommon to go anhour or twobetween getting a single one. Luckily,you only need to complete this first step, Arcane Artistry, a single time. Every subsequent Phantom Weapon you want to craft willstart from the following step.
This also means that any Demiatma you obtain over the third one is functionally useless, and can besafely discarded.
Forging The Phantasmal
Once you’ve found all 18 Demiatma, return to Gerolt to complete Arcane Artistry. Then, you’ll undertake the second part of the first Phantom Weapon step,Forging the Phantasmal.
For this step, you simply need todeliver three pieces of Arcanite, which can be purchased fromErmina in the Phantom Village (X:6.9, Y:7.3)for500 Tomestones of Heliometry each, for a total of1,500 Tomestonesfor this step.
Deliver the Tomestones, and you’ll be rewarded with your very own Phantom Weapon Penumbrae. This quest can then berepeated for each additional Phantom Weapon Penumbraeyou want to craft.
