Tools have been pretty static inMinecraftfor a long time, at least when it comes to the early game. The progression has went from wood to stone to iron for a long time when it comes to tools, and from leather to iron for a long time when it comes to armor.
But with the big copper update in Minecraft, things have changed. Now copper tools fit that spot between stone and iron, and for armor, between leather and iron. This changes the early game significantly, and is one of many reasons to be much more excited about finding copper in the future.
This update is currently in the Minecraft Preview, and you’ll need to download that client to play with it until the update is officially released.
How To Craft Copper Tools
Copper is a very abundant resourcefound above the Y-coordinate of zero. Each copper block is usually going to gain you more than one copper ore, which can then be smelted into one copper ingot, each. You’ll need a stone pickaxe to mine copper, as mining it with a wooden pickaxe is going to destroy it.
Therecipe for the copper tools is the same as with other tools, just with copper rather than with iron, diamond, stone, etc.

Copper pickaxesdo not allow you to obtain things like diamonds,but they do mine quicker and last longer than stone pickaxes.This makes them a very good option for busywork like digging a bunch of stone, as opposed to wasting iron or diamond for that.
To craft a full set of copper tools, you’ll need 11 copper ingots.
How To Craft Copper Armor
Copper armor is going toprotect you more than leather armor, but less than iron armor. Again, copper is going to be more abundant than iron, meaning it’s going to be much easier to make a suit of copper armor.
But, you’re generally going to want as much protection as you can get, and armor doesn’t break nearly as quickly as tools. Once you’ve got enough iron,most players are still going to want wear iron armor rather than stick with copper.

For a full suit of copper armor, you’re going to need 24 copper ingots.
How To Craft A Copper Chest
A Copper Chest isgoing to be necessary if you’re looking to involve thenew Copper Goleminto your organizational plans. The Copper Golem is going to take items from a Copper Chest and distribute them to other nearby chests; if you’ve set things up correctly, they’ll act as an automatic sorting system.
There are two ways to create a Copper Chest:
Copper Golems will search any nearby Copper Chest, and you can create a double chest out of Copper, as well.
