Now that you’ve reached the Forlorn Swords region inTainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon, you’ve reached not only the last resting place of King Arthur’s crown but the home of the Dál Riata tribes. Just like the people in the Horns of the South and Cuanacht, they too face struggles and strife.
For the Úlfr, they’re caught between a rock and a hard place. Their chieftain has called upon the Giant’s power against their will and without their blessing, and no one has the power to take control away from him. Unless they’re rid of Thrygve, the Úlfr won’t be attending the Moot any time soon.
How To Help The Úlfr Tribe
For theÚlfr Tribe, their centralquest is Rise The Mountain, Face The Storm. They’re located on thesouthwestern sideof the Forlorn Swords, duewest of the Capital, where Gerf’hanr is, and as soon as you approach the entrance, you’ll need tospeak with the guard.
After talking to him, go inside, speak to Egill, then headup the stairs to the main areaof the Úlfr Village, and go to theForge of the Úlfr Tribe, which is found through the largedoorway in the wall beneath the stairsand scaffolding leading higher up.
Speak toStron’ner at the forgenear the entrance, and he’ll direct you to Darv’hanr, who’s found in theHall Of The Stonewardensat thehome at the top of the staircase.
If you’vecompleted theA Pebble In The Pit side questand started the subsequent quest, Call Of The Wintermoon, you’ll need to speak with Darv’hanr for themonce you have the Stone Talisman as well.
Next, goback to Stron’nerand inquire about his wife, then go outside andback to the liftthat originally took you to where the village was, and insteadfollow the path aroundto an area at thewestern edge of the Forlorn Swords.
Go inside thehouse by the cliff, unlock thedoor to the basementinside, andspeak with Vigdis. Now, you’ll need tofind each of the Giants' resting placesand bring them an offering.
The Gunnvaldr Giant’s Blessing
The Gunnvaldr Giant is located in thedestroyed Gunnvaldr Villagenear thecenter of Forlorn Swords, and theshrine is located close to the entrancewhere Vati and the fast travel point are.
Make sure togo ahead and clear out the Undead and Brimshades scattered around the village, as the Brimshade’s mist will impair your visionand they’ll interrupt the upcoming trial otherwise.
Approach the shrine andselect one animal componentto sacrifice. It can be fromany type of animal, monster or not, but anything from acreature like a Redcap or Marrowghast won’t count. Some potentialsacrifices you may useinclude:
While implied, you don’t need to summon any additional allies, such as the Battlemage or Corpse Eater summons, to complete the trial, though it can be fun to do soas part of the narrative.
After the sacrifice, theGiant of Summoning will speak to youand prepare a trial. You’ll have tofight against two icy Croakmaws, which are stronger than the normal variant andcapable of inflicting the Frozen status effect. Once they’re dead, you’llpass the Giant’s trialand obtain the Gunnvaldr Giant’s Blessing.
The Forgotten Giant’s Blessing
The Forgotten Giant is located at thebottom of a canyon northeast of the Capital, and thebest way to reach itis tostart at the Capital, thenhead eastof it,following the cliff walluntil you find acave called the Mine Pass.
Go inside and take thelift down to the bottom floor, then exit into the gorge, andfollow the path leftpast a fast travel point, and into theMountain Ice Cave.
If youtake the small pathway adjacent to the exit of the Mine Pass, you can dig up a chest containing a two-handed greatsword called The Unstoppable, which has high damage and restores 50 stamina when you kill an enemy.
Follow thepath down to the central chamber, and there’s going to be another Giant with a shrine in front of them. Like before, you’ll need tosacrifice an animal componentof some kind, either from aregular animal or a monster animal, such as a Deer Pelt or Croakmaw Skin.
Once you make the sacrifice, the Forgotten Giant will ask you to complete another trial. AGloomfrond will spawn behindyou, a boss enemy withpowerful physical attacks, such as acharging move, alaser beamlike the blind Marrowghasts, andsummoning damaging roots.
After killing it,loot the bodyto obtain the requested items, and theForgotten Giant will speak to youagain, then give you theForgotten Giant’s blessingas a reward.
You canget into theroom blocked by a wall of roots by crouching down and crawling through a hole just before the doorway, and inside you’ll find a chest you can dig up.
The Theud Giant’s Blessing
To get to the Theud Giant, you’ll want tostart at the Úlfr Village, then follow thepath east from the fast travel point, around backtowards the cliff edgewhere Vigdis is, butgo past itthis time, and keep goingdown until you reach the Elevator Pass.
Go through the short tunnel, take the lift down, and you canexit onto the beacharea, which has a fast travel point. Cross the crumbling bridge, pray at theCroakmaw Shrine nearbyif you have the available parts for an additional50 points to your Encumbrance Limit, thenfollow the long pathupthe mountain.
On thebottom floor of the Elevator Pass, you can mine through two rock walls, one of which has a chest with regular loot behind it, and the other a chest you can dig upto get the Amulet of Inspiration.
Amagic liftwill take you the rest of the way up, and you’llreach the Theud Village, which you’llneed to visit anywayas part of Divided We Fall, as theTheud have their own quest to complete. Go to thesouthwestern corner of the village, and the Theud Giant will be at the top of the stairs.
This time, you’ll onlyneed to sacrifice a Rose, which can befound all over both Horn Of The South and Cuanacht, or purchased frommerchants like Alwynin Cuanacht, orJann Heberin the Horns Of The South Keep.
You’ll betransported into a different realmand need tofight three enemies: two Beholders and the boss, an Ancient Beholder. All three of them doextremely high damage with their laser beams, especially the Ancient Beholder.
Kill the Beholders first, as they have much lower HP, anduse the arena to your advantage, as you canhide behind the treeson the edge if you need to heal.
Once they’re dead, focus on the Ancient Beholder, and watch out for theattack when it kneels. It willcharge up a beamwith very high damage, but you canavoid it by running around it.
After all three are dead, you’llreceive the Theud Giant’s Blessing, and you canreturn to Darv’hanrand tell him the good news.
During the conversation, you’ll get the option toask him to forge the weaponor toforge it yourself. Both optionsgive the same weapon: theGiant’s Grudge greatsword, which hasno stat requirements, so any build can wield it.
How To Kill Thrygve
Head to thealtar near the Ulfr Village, and you’ll findThrygve sitting on a throneagainst the pillars. Talk to him, and when youchallenge himto combat, you’ll besent to a special realm.
You’llfight him one-on-one, and theonly thing able to damage him is the Giant’s Grudge. Overall, hecan do a lot of damage, especially if he catches you on low stamina, but because of him wielding a two-handed weapon,he isn’t fast.
Alternate between dodging and blockinghis strikes, getting in Light and Heavy attacks as you can. Ataround half health, he will pause anddrink a potion to restore 25 percent of his health, but he can bestunned out of it by attacking himwhen he tries, making him dodge.
If you aren’t able to, just keep with the same strategy, paying close attention to your staminato make sure youdon’t run out while close to him, and keep your health up with either potions or food items.
Once he’snearly dead, thebattle will end, and you’llhave a decisionto make: have eitherStron’ner or Darv’hanr as the next Úlfr chieftain.
Consequences Of Selecting Stron’ner
Consequences Of Selecting Darv’hanr
If youselect Stron’nerto lead the tribe, he willagree to go to the Moot, and you’ll succeed in that step of Divided We Fall.
If youselect Darv’hanrto lead the tribe, he willrefuse to go to the Moot, and you’ll belocked out of them comingto the Capital, though the quest won’t fail.
You canloot Thrygve’s body to obtain Thrygve’s Axe, a two-handed greataxe, and a set of Titansteel armor, once the quest is completed.
After your choice, you’ll bereturned to the mortal realmand have a scene with both of them, giving youprogress in Divided We Fall, andcompleting Rise The Mountain, Face The Storm, which willreward you with around 5,000 EXP.
