Congratulations on the assumed purchase of yourNintendo Switch 2! As much fun as it is to play single player games, many of the console’s best fun is found among friends. But for that, you need to connect more controllers. But in this wireless age of technology, adding a controller isn’t that simple anymore.
fear not, socialite! Whether it’s connecting a new Pro controller, or syncing up your friend’s Joycons when they come visit, we’ll go over every single way to sync a controller to your console and play without trouble. We even provide some back up methods in case the normal way doesn’t work for some reason.
The Standard Connection Process
Generally speaking, all controllers follow the same ruleswhen syncing to a console:
If playing multiplayer, don’t press A to confirm until every controller has finished connecting. Otherwise, it may interrupt the connection process of some controllers.
Once synced, they will usually connect simply by pressing any button while the console is on and waiting a moment. There are, however,a few alternative connection optionsyou can follow if this process doesn’t work for you.
The Sync Button Alternative
If the L and R method isn’t working how it should, you’re able to alsouse the small circular sync button found on the top side of every controller. During the Change Grip/Order screen, press and hold the button until a green light starts movingback and forth along the four connection light squares.
After a moment, they should sync to the Switch 2 console andcan be connected via the L+R method.
The Other Way To Sync Single And Paired Joycons
If neither the L+R method nor the sync button is doing the trick, there’sa third method that is virtually foolproof.
Physically connect the Joycons to the Switch 2 console by placing them into the magnetic holds on the side of the device. After a small moment, the Joycons will sync and can be removed (you might hear a sound or jingle).
Once removed, you can attempt to connect via the usual L+R method as described above.
The Other Way To Sync Switch 2 Pro Controllers
The Switch 2 Pro Controller can’t physically connect to the sides of the consolelike Joycons, but that doesn’t mean they can’t still directly connect.
Instead, use the USB cable provided with the Pro controller to connect it to the Switch 2’s TV base. While the Switch 2 is in the base and on, it will synchronize the controller. After that, it can connect the usual way.
This willrequire a USB to USB-C cable. We strongly recommend using the one provided with the controller (because not all USB cables are built the same) but any will work in a pinch.
Alternatively,You can use a USB-C to USB-C cable to connect the Pro controller directly to the top or bottom of the Switch 2, removing the need for the TV base.
