Of all the quests inTainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon, The Word Is Silent can easily be among the most annoying. While at its core, this quest is deadly simple, you are provided with very little in the way of guidance.
After finding the note on the beach, your only instruction is to find someone to give the note to. Worse yet, if you track the quest, the game won’t provide you with a single marker. But worry not, while the game may leave you in the dark, we’ll tell you everything you need to know from beginning to end. \
How Do You Start The Word Is Silent Quest?
You will only have one shot to begin The Word Is Silent quest and that is when you first reach the beach on the Asylum Island. After you kill the Golem boss, you will head through a magical archway and find yourself facing the beach. Head forward andtake a rightthe first chance you get - you should nowsee a statue in the distance. A few steps later, you’ll find yourself facing thewreckage of a small boat.
Move toward the wreckage. Now, you’ll be standing in shallow water, and youshouldsee a narrow passage that leads through the rocky center of the island. Take a few steps forward and then look to your right. There will be a Red Priest’scorpse nestled inside a little rocky alcove. The Letter to the Prior is at their feet. Read it, and you will begin the quest. The area with the alcove is super easy to walk past and miss. It is very close to the wreckage, so don’t stray too far from that beached boat.
Unfortunately, if you want to take this quest, and you have already left the beach, I fear you are out of luck. As far as I’ve seen, there is no way to return to the island.
Father Vaughan’s Notes
While inside the Asylum, if you are searching all the cells, you will find the remains of a woman who died during childbirth. If you read the notes left by Father Vaughan, the Unforgettable quest will begin. I mention this because The Word Is Silent is somewhat connected to this quest, though it is not dependent on it. Unfortunately, if you are reading this guide after you’ve already left the Asylum, and are on the beach, then you won’t be able to go back and retrieve Father Vaughan’s Notes.
Where To Find Brother Riagan
You will be able to complete the next step in this quest once you have arrived in The Horns of the South.East of the beach you wash up on is the fortressthat the Keepers call home. You need to head here for the main questline anyway, so if youtrack the “Shadow of the Horns” quest, you will be provided with a marker for the fortress on your map. Once you have gained access to the fortress, head to the northeast garden. Here you’ll find Brother Riagan.
You won’t be able to find Brother Riagan here during the night, of course.
With the Letter to the Prior in your possession, talk to Brother Riagan. Select the following dialog options…
If you left theLetter to the Prior in your stash box, don’t worry. Just grab the letter and talk to Brother Riagan again. You will be given another chance to show him your proof.
Once you’ve given Brother Riagan the proof, the dialogue chain will end, and you can ask him about other things or purchase items from his shop. However, the quest will not be concluded.Talk to Riagan again. He will say that he has thought about what you told him. He’ll also mention Katrin, a pregnant woman who sought treatment.
As long as you read Father Vaughan’s Notesinside Katrin’s cell during the Asylum section of the game, you will be able to follow up with the dialogue choice “Katrin and her son died in the dungeons. I saw their remains.”. You will then give him Father Vaughan’s Notes.
Curiously, I did not need to have the note on me. I even tried throwing the note away, and it still gave me the option to give him the note. It could just be a bug, but it seems as though the quest is pretty lenient in that regard.
At this point, Riagan will denounce the church, and the quest will conclude. You will be rewarded with75 XPfor completing it. If you had Father Vaughan’s Notes on you when you spoke to him, then you will be given an additional50 XP.
