This quest is part of the Shivering Isles DLC.
How To Start The Lady Of Paranoia Quest
During the Understanding Madness main questof the Shivering Isles, Sheogorath will ask you tocheck on the Duchess of Dementiaand see if she needs help.
Make your way to the House of Dementia and speak with the Duchess Syl toreceive your assignment.
This will begin the Lady of Paranoia quest.
As the quest name suggests, Duchess Syl is very paranoid andconvinced that someone is going after her.
As a result, she will appoint you asthe Grand Inquisitorand require your help infiguring out the truth behind all these suspicions.
How To Complete The Lady Of Paranoia Quest
As the first person to talk to,you will be directed to Herdir, who can be found at the House of Dementia’s Torture Chamber.
During your conversation with him, he will be happy to help you andwill follow you around as you investigate the conspiracy further.
Among the first few people you may interrogate isKithlan, located in the throne room. You can interact with him andcommand Herdir to torture him. After a few attempts, he will reveal that you shouldcheck with Anya Herrick.
Anya is also located in the throne room as well, andshe will need a bit of Herdir’s persuasion to make her talk. When she does, she will reveal another name involved:Ma’zaddha.
At this point, there is no direct lead or evidence about Ma’zaddha, so you need to make your way to Crucible and speak to people in order to get a lead.
You can speak to anyoneanduse some of Herdir’s ways of persuasion to get information from them.
If you go and speak to Ma’zaddha directly, he will refuse to take accusations and demand evidence of what you are claiming.
One of the townspeople will reveal thatMa’zaddha has secret meetings with a guard named Nelrene during the night.
So,wait until after midnightand make your way to the sewer gate. Ask Herdir to wait somewhere a bit farther away so he won’t be seen, andthen eavesdrop on their conversation.
You need to be very careful not to be seen during the eavesdropping. If you get caught, you will have to wait for another night and try again. The best approach is to use an invisibility spell during their conversation.
Once the conversation ends, confront Ma’zaddha and tell him that you overheard what they were talking about.
This will lead to another confrontation with Nelrene, who won’t be easy to convince. However,a bit of persuasion from Herdirwill get her to reveal the name of the leader:Muurine.
Even with this confirmation, you still need evidence before going after Muurine. Therefore, wait for one more day andmake your way to Ma’zaddha’s house.
When you enter, you will find the poor man dead.Loot his corpse to obtain the keys.
With these keys, head upstairs to Ma’zaddha’s room andopen the cabinet to findMa’zaddha’s Crinkled NoteandNelrene’s Ceremonial Shortsword.
This is more than enough evidence to confront Muurine. When you do, she will confess everything.
Finally, report back to the Duchess. Her paranoid suspicions were not just paranoia -they were real. She will then ask you tofollow her to the Torture Chamber to deal with the traitor.
You will witness Muurine’s execution, and as a reward for your efforts, the Duchess will title you as one of the Court of Dementia andgrant you Ruin’s Edge Bow.
