Almost two decades after The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’s original release, Bethesda made the ultimate ‘Everybody Liked That’ video gaming move of 2025 by revealing they had been working onOblivion Remasteredbehind the scenes. The mesmeric story of Oblivion is now available to play with next-gen graphics for the first time, and it’s one of the best nostalgia trips around.
On your quest to bring peace to Cyrodiil, you’ll need to recover the Amulet of Kings, and to do that, you’ll need to provide Martin with several items. Between recovering these items, though, a surprising development occurs in the nearby settlement of Bruma. Here’s how to start and complete the main story quest Bruma Gate.
How To Start Bruma Gate
After giving a Daedric Artifact to Martin to complete’Blood Of The Daedra', he informs you thatJauffre needs to speak with youregarding an urgent development in Bruma. This starts the main story quest ‘Bruma Gate’ and, unfortunately, the plot of this quest is exactly what it sounds like.Speak with Jauffre, and he’ll explain that anOblivion Gate has openedup just outside of the gates to the nearby settlement of Bruma.
Since you have experience of closing an Oblivion Gatewhen you saved Kvatchearlier in the main story, you’re the ideal person to help out the Bruma Guard as theyprepare to enter Oblivionand attempt to close the gate. Travel to Bruma (you can walk or fast travel, it’s only a short distance south of the Cloud Ruler Temple) andspeak with Captain Burdwhen you arrive.
You’ll explain that you need to enter Oblivion through the gate andfind the Sigil Stoneto close the portal to the realm.Burd puts himself forwardto join youalong with two other guards, but before you’re able to head into the other dimension,a wave of enemies emergesfrom Oblivion and attacks.
Defeat them andenter Oblivion via the Gate. You can enter Oblivion without the backup, but you may as well go with those three, as the section coming up is combat-heavy. Be sure to stock up with any items and/ or weapons you’ll need beforehand, as you won’t be able to return to Cyrodiil until after completing the quest.
Closing The Oblivion Gate
Oblivion is similar to when you entered the realm last in the main story, but the layout of the area outside of the Tower is different. This is a linear path,so just follow it around to get to the Tower’s entrance. You cannot go straight to the tower, though; you’ll have towalk around in a large, outer circle, and you’ll encounter plenty of enemies along the way. These will most consist of Stunted Scamps before Dremora Churl become regular.
When you enter the tower, the general path you’ll need to take is toget to the top.It can be hard to know where to go, but when in doubt, look for stairs and head higher up.Be sure to look in every room for treasure hidden in chests and loot the bodies of enemies you defeat, as they can have keys which can be used to open locked doors. You can lockpickthese, but using a key is a lot easier.
ensure you keep moving while going around Oblivion, as you will likely get hit by spikes that emerge from the floor if you stand still for any significant amount of time. It’s difficult for both of the other Bruma Guards to survive the journey through Oblivion, but don’t worry, this won’t affect the outcome of this quest. Burd cannot die during this quest, as he’s an ‘essential’ character for its completion.
Keep climbing the Tower, and when you get close to the Sigil Stone, you’ll encounter the Sigil Keeper. It’s essential to kill him and loot his corpse, get the Sigil Keyand gain access to the Sigil Keep. Head into the Sigil Keep and remove the Sigil Stone.
When you remove the Sigil Stone, Burd will have to be present with you. If he’s stuck further down the Tower, or you’ve told him to wait, ensure he travels up to the Sigil Keep.
Completing The Start Bruma Gate
When you return to Bruma, speak with Captain Burdto complete the quest. Thankfully, he’s now armed with the knowledge required to close any other Oblivion Gates that spring up near Bruma, so you shouldn’t be required to help again, at least for now.Return to Jauffrein Cloud Ruler Templeto finish the quest, and this is where you may start the optional side quest’Allies for Bruma',where you’re recruiting allies to help Bruma for the upcoming battle ahead.
The next main story quest is’Blood of the Divines', which can be started by speaking with Martin.
