Death Stranding 2: On The Beachisn’t just about building roads and delivering parcels this time around. With the sequel set in Australia, a country with a huge variety of wildlife, you’ll have the opportunity to rescue animals and return them to a nature reserve they’ll call home.

Or, if you’re like me, you’ll accidentally run over a wombat in your car and feel terrible, only to spend the entire game trying to be the kindest animal lover this post-apocalypse has ever known. But once you unlock the ability to encounter and rescue animals across the world, it takes a bit of practice to truly become one with nature. Here’s how to do it.

The player looks at the map before accepting a mission in Death Stranding 2.

How To Open The Nature Reserve

Upon arriving at Rainbow Valley and meeting Rainy for the first time in the western part of the map, you will be assignedOrder 15by Fragile and Tarman. This mission requires Sam Porter Bridges torescue a test subject kangarooand deliver it to a nearby animal shelter.

After accepting the mission, you will receive a briefing from Charlie that indicates the exact location of the animal and how exactly to reach theAnimal Shelterthat awaits beyond it. I would take in all of this information, including theuse of the odradek to locate the creature, since it will appear immediately in your vision with a blue outline surrounding it.

You don’t need any special equipment to pick up the injured kangaroo. Just approach it and pick it up like you would any other piece of equipment or package.

The task itself is pretty simple despite the circumstances surrounding it, since once you set out towards the kangaroo, achiral meteor shower will break out and begin covering the floor in flaming whale carcassesas a bushfire breaks out. Your best course of action here is torun.

You have a time limit of30 minutes to complete this mission, but that is more than enough to do what is asked of you here. So focus on the marker on your compass and head towards it once the meteor shower breaks out. Be careful, there will be plenty of sudden fires to avoid.

Once the kangaroo is on your back, it’s time to sprint to the Animal Shelter and meet the trio of musicians who run the place. I’m talking about the bandChvrches, who appear as porters in this game and have developed a second career looking after Australian wildlife.

Submit the order after arriving at the Animal Shelter and thena cutscene will play out where your new friend Rainy will extinguish all the bushfires. Now, here is how to capture and save animals out in the open world.

How To Capture Animals In The Open World

Now you’ve opened the nature reserve, you are free to capture animals across the world and return them to their new home. But the game doesn’t strictly explain how this is done. Luckily, it’s pretty simple, andanimals can be knocked out in the same way as human enemies.

Whenever you stumble across wild animals in the open world - which can be pinged by way of the odradek scanner, you canshoot them with a non-lethal weapon of any kind to knock them unconscious. Once docile, approach them to stuff them directly into an animal carrier.

You can also earn a Quokka charm by reaching a four-star ranking with the shelter, a charm that allows you to get closer to animals without them getting spooked and bolting.

You will need to transport animals directly to the shelter yourself though, and can’t take them across the open world via fast travelling on the DHV Magellan. Instead, you can entrust them to other players who will eventually complete the delivery in your place.

How To Interact With Animals In The Nature Reserve

Animals delivered to the shelter will automatically begin to populate the reserve located next to it. Activate your scanner and the same outlines will appear around each animal, making it easier to approach and shower them with likes.

you’re able to also tag animals to locate them in the future, since they have a habit of roaming around the place and not sticking to their localised habitats.

Can You Kill Wild Animals?

Yes, but it’s hard to do it on purpose unless you’re an absolute sicko. Kojima Productions has made it soyou can’t throw animal containers or use them as weapons, while it seems only an assortment of non-lethal weapons actually work on them.

However, when riding into a large outpost, a wombat ran into the road and under the wheel of my van. As a consequence, some red text appeared on the screen telling me I’d lost 100 likes for my actions. So,if you kill any wildlife, you’re going to be punished for it.
