Hot Springs are one of many forms of fast travel to be found inDeath Stranding 2: On The Beach, but they are also the most complicated method to wrap your head around. You not only need to track down the exact location in which they need to be placed, but also try and figure out where on the world map you’d expect a traditional Japanese hot spring to be.

First located at Heartman’s Lab roughly halfway through the campaign, each hot spring is not only capable of fast travel between other bodies of water, they also come with unique properties such as being able to restore stamina, charge batteries, or allowing our hero a little time to stare up at the stars in search of constellations. Here’s how to build them.

Sam constructs a hot spring outside the nature reserve in Death Stranding 2.

How To Build Hot Springs

Hot springs are easily the most complicated structure in Death Stranding 2to construct. For most others, you only need to equip a PCC of the correct level and find a free spot within the chiral network to lay down roots.

Obviously, you’ll need to add the relevant resources in order to get it upgraded, but otherwise it’s a quick, simple, and effective way of building essential structures. Hot springs are kind of a luxury though, opening up a questline with Heartman’s Labthat has you travelling the land in search of untapped groundwater.

verify you return to Heartman’s Lab after completing each hot spring, since they count as orders to be submitted despite not appearing on any of the menus.

Let’s use the Animal Shelter hot spring as an example of how and where to build them. You can’t place them anywhere, and will need tofind a specific spot in the environment that the spring is intended for. To do so, you need toequip a Hot Spring Digger through the PCC.

You will notice two points on screen upon equipping the Hot Spring Digger, which should be ‘Outside Permitted Construction Zone’ and ‘Hydrothermal Sensor Reading’ that both need to be met in order to build a hot spring.

The reading is afaint or strong beepwhich will indicate the direction you need to proceed in to find the building site. It will becomelouder and more aggressivethe closer you are to the right spot, switching from faint to strong when you are just a few metres away.

You can find the Animal Shelter hot spring just past the nature reserve overlooking the edge of a cliff. Unfortunately, none of the animals come and join you for a nice bath…

You will likely recognise the correct spot for a spring once you stumble across it, oftenmade obvious by a dip into the earth and a small open space for the digger to be placed. Its outline will change from red to blue once it’s ready to place, causing a small cutscene to play out.

No additional resources are needed to build or upgrade the hot spring either. You can just step right aside as soon as construction is complete to have a good soak.Be sure to press the touch bar to send Dollman into an adorable song and danceonce in the spring too. Sam even dances and sings along!

How To Fast Travel Using Hot Springs

Fast travel using hot springs perhaps isn’t as useful as transponders or the DHV Magellan, considering there are fewer locations to choose from, and it takes a bit longer. But once soaking in a hot spring, press the R1 button to intiate a jumpin which Sam will place a bucket on his head before sinking into the water.

Keep in mind that yourcargo will be stored in the private locker of each hot spring, and you may only take a select number of things with you. Similar to other fast travel methods, this isn’t a cheat code to finish up your deliveries without hard work.
