Among First Partner Pokemon, Grass-types aren’t always the most popular. But Meowscarada and Decidueye are exceptions, and they happen to be great partners inPokemon TCG Pocket. As a toolbox that can punish your opponent for playing ex Pokemon and snipe Pokemon from the Bench, they can mow down some of the top meta decks.

Two three-stage lines in one deck is usually a nightmare, but Sprigatito’s Cry for Help attack and Rare Candy make it feasible. With a little luck and Grass’s incredible Trainer support, this deck has the seeds of success and is ready to bloom.

While you won’t normally use Rowlet or Dartrix to attack, Skill Dive is the preferred attack on both, since it allows you to set up your opponent’s Pokemon for Decidueye ex’s Pierce the Pain attack. This is whywe recommend the Celestial Guardians Rowlet(number ten)and Celestial Guardians Dartrix.

Grass-type decks have excellent support from Erika and Leaf Cape, but if you think a little more healing is required, swap out Red Card for a second Lillie.

Meowscarada Decidueye ex Strategy

Against ex-heavy decks,Meowscarada will be your primary attacker, while Decidueye works better against non-ex Pokemon. Either way,Sprigatito should be our first Active Pokemon, and since only one Basic Pokemon is different, you’ll usually start with one in your hand.

If you’re going second, or if you went first but have Meowscarada and a Rare Candy in your hand, use Sprigatito’s Cry for Help to find a random Pokemon from your deckand add it to your hand. you may use this attack several times while setting up another Meowscarada and Decidueye ex on your Bench.

Decidueye ex A3 Pocket

Alwaysuse the Poke Balls in your hand first, to increase the odds of finding an Evolution Pokemon.

Your first Sprigatito won’t usually get a chance to evolve, but if you feel good about the progress on your Bench, feel free to evolve it to Floragato (or Meowscarada, with a Rare Candy), attach a second Energy, and attack.

The Professor’s Research promo from Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket.

If your opponent retreats their Active Pokemon to prevent a KO, orif they aren’t running ex Pokemon, bring out Decidueye ex. Not only does its Razor Leaf attack deal 20 more damage than Meowscarada’s Fighting Claws, it also has Pierce the Pain, which can damage Pokemon on the Bench.

Pierce the Pain deals 100 damage to any of your opponent’s Pokemon, whether Active or Benched, but only if they already have damage. This allows you toknock out Pokemon that your opponent is trying to protect, but won’t do anything if they’ve managed to heal or avoid damage.

Decidueye should usually be the last Pokemon you send into battle, because it’s worth two Prize Points. If you lose Sprigatito and then Decidueye ex, you lose the match. But if you send in Meowscarada second, you’ll have a whole extra Pokemon to work with.

Because this deck uses two Stage 2 Pokemon lines, there isn’t much room for Trainer cards.Professor’s Research, Poke Ball, and Rare Candy are must-have cards, leaving room for only six more Trainer cards. That means you need to be picky!

Lillie Pocket

Fortunately,Grass-type decks have excellent Trainer support: Erika heals each of your Grass-type Pokemon for 50 damage, and Leaf Cape gives them an extra 30 HP. But since you’re using Stage 2 Pokemon, Lillie provides even more healing, allowing Stage 2 Pokemon to regain 60 HP.

The last Trainer card, and the one you’re able to most easily replace, is Red Card. This can do wonders in a mirror match, where your opponent will use Cry for Help to get a new Pokemon card, and then you can force them to shuffle it back into their deck.

Sabrina is a good replacement, as it can allow you to push the Pokemon your opponent had to set up onto their Bench, giving you some time to KO it with Pierce the Pain before they can retreat the new Pokemon.

Meowscarada Decidueye ex Matchups

Giratina ex Darkrai ex

The Giratina ex Darkrai ex archetypehas been going strong ever since Giratina ex was introduced to the game in Shining Revelry. ButMeowscarada and Decidueye ex are uniquely suited to taking them down.

Erika and Lillie can easily heal through Darkrai ex’s chip damage, and since only one Giratina ex usually gets to set up, once you take the first one down, the other won’t be a threat. But if Darkrai ex is the Active Pokemon, try to snipe Giratina ex on the Bench before it can set up.

Silvally Rampardos

While Meowscarada and Decidueye ex can handle a lot of the top decks, theycan almost never beatSilvally / Rampardos, which is one of the most popular decks. The pronounced disadvantage against this deck, combined with its popularity, is what keeps Meowscarada / Decidueye ex from being a top deck itself.

Silvally / Rampardos is so fast and aggressive thatyou probably won’t be able to use a second Call for Help, leaving you struggling to set up any more Pokemon. Your best-case scenario is to go second with Rowlet Active, Candy-evolve to Decidueye ex, KO Silvally, and hope your opponent hasn’t found another Basic Pokemon yet.

Buzzwole ex Pheromosa

The Buzzwole ex / Pheromosa deck is a toolbox capable of hitting fast, hitting hard, and hitting Pokemon on the Bench. It shares the Meowscarada / Decidueye ex deck’s support cards, but is less reliant on setting up, since it only uses Basic Pokemon. Overall, these two decks are almost perfectly matched.

The Buzzwole ex engine uses Celesteela’s Ultra Thrusters ability to switch each turn, allowing your opponent to use Big Beat over and over again.Scoring a KO on one Buzzwole ex will slow this down significantly, and KOing Celesteela will shut it off completely.
