During your time playing the Shivering Isles expansion forThe Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, you will notice how the world is uniquely crafted, with it being separated into two contrasting regions: Mania, the bright side, and Dementia, the dark side.
As you progress further into the main story, you’ll find yourself needing to make key decisions about which side to align with in order to move the story forward and complete the cycle in which the world operates. As part of this cycle, you’ll eventually be tasked with replacing one of the ruling Dukes of either Mania or Dementia to continue the ritual and advance the story.
How To Start The Ritual Of Mania Quest
After youcomplete the Cold Flame of Agnon main questand report to Sheogorath about your progress, he will explain that you need tospeak to both Arctus and Dervenin, who will explain your next task, which requires another decision to be made.
Once youlearn about the Ritual of Accession, speak again to Sheogorath andchoose the option for Thadon, Duke of Mania. This will begin the Ritual of Mania quest.
How To Become The Duke/Duchess Of Mania
Your task is todispose of the current Duke of Mania, Thadon, but there is a specific process you need to go through. If you speak to Dervenin,he will direct you toward Wide-Eye, who can be found at the throne room, the Halcyon Conservatory, or around Bliss.
When you speak to her,verify to raise her disposition to at least 70, and then bring up the topic about Thadon. She will explain that you needa special item called Greenmote, and she will mention her daily routine.
Even if you ask her about Greenmote with a disposition of 100, she will not tell you directly, but she will mention a special errand she makes during noon, which is when you need to follow her.
Simply wait until 3 pm, then follow Wide-Eye. She will lead you toa statue located in the northeast of the Palace courtyard, where she will activate the statue toreveal a hidden passagethat leads to a secret cave called the Greenmote Silo.
Inside the silo, there are multiple guards thatyou can either sneak past them using an invisibility spell or fight them all.
Make your way forward through the silo until youreach the Greenmote Pile.Interact with it twice to collect two doses of Greenmote, and now you’re ready for the ritual.
Now you need to put this additional dose into his food, somake your way to the kitchen, which is located in the Duke’s Quarters.
Be careful, as guards might spot you for trespassing. Again, sneaking around or using an invisibility spell works wonders.
Once inside the quarters,head to the kitchen area, which is located to the west. There are two items you need to interact with to place the Greenmote in:Thadon’s Meal on the table to the leftandThadon’s Wine in the cupboard to the right.
With this done,wait until it’s 8 pm, thenmake your way to the throne room of Mania,where you will find both Thadon and Wide-Eye sitting and eating.
Take a seat yourselfand watch for the Greenmote to take effect. After the scene, the Greenmote will force Thadon to die.Interact with his body to collect his blood, thentake it to Sheogorath at Sacellum Arden-Sul.
Activate the altar by placing the blood on it, and this will trigger a cutscene. After the cutscene ends,speak to Sheogorathone last time to receive your reward,the Ring of Lordship, andcomplete the quest.
