As you learn about the secrets of the world inRune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma, you’ll go through various dungeons that usually offer you a ton of combat with the enemies. However, there are a few dungeons where you can avoid most of the battles by choosing the right path, and Twilight Gaol is the perfect example of that.

This is one of the late-game areas that you visit as you’re trying to activate the Astral Shrines for the gods of Azuma, and it’s the only one without a proper map since the entire appeal is to get you to make the right choices without any help except the hints.

How To Reach Twilight Gaol

Twilight Gaol is one of the few dungeons that you won’t be able to see from the start, even though the island that has it, Prisoner Island, will be accessibleas soon as the first barrier in the Skies of Azuma goes away. This dungeon only unlocks after you go through the first two Astral Shrines belonging to the Spring and Summer Village respectively.

After finishing the latter, you’ll get the quest to figure out where the Autumn Village’s shrine is, and Kotaro can help you with that. However, you’ll need to get him a Tri-Color Dango. While you can get its recipe from the Sage of Sweets quest, it’s recommended to just head over to Iroha’s shop in Spring village.

You can easily buy aTri-Color Dango at her shop for 564 gold, which shouldn’t be a big deal this late in the game.

Head back over to Kotaro and give him the Dango, after which he directs you to the Prisoner Island. The island itself is quite straightforward since you just have totake the path on the left while going up the stairs after you disembark on it. However, you’ll have to finish a boss battle before you can enter the shrine.

How To Defeat The Nine-Tails Boss

At the end of the Prisoner Island and right before the entrance to the Twilight Gaol, you’ll have a small conversation with Hina, which will turn into the Nine-Tails boss battle. Most of the boss fights in Rune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma follow the same idea where you first have to dodge a boss' attack to trigger the time slow.

During this time slow, you’re able to constantly attack the boss withcharged or Sacred Treasure attacks to deal high damage to the stun bar. For Nine-Tails, you’ll deal even higher damage to this bar while, using a Long Sword and a water-type attack at the same time, since those are her two weaknesses.

You deal much lower damage to the boss when they’re not stunned, soit’s not recommended to brute force in these battles.

After the boss gets stunned, you may use your Secret Parasol’s ability that uses two spirit bars to deal high damage to its HP, followed by constant attacks with the Parasol itself using your RP. If you follow this procedure, you’ll be able to easily defeat the boss within two stun windows.

How To Beat Twilight Gaol

As soon as you enter Twilight Gaol in Rune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma and take a look at the map, you’ll quickly realize that it won’t help you.Instead, you’ll always find two path choices in front of you. There’s a hint that helps you decide which path you should select on the boards you read, and here are all the right choices:

If you make a wrong choice in any of these rooms, you’ll just have to gothrough a battle before landing back on the same choice.

In the next room, you’ll see two chests, but the big one will once again have the Tanuki leaf. Choose the smaller chest and move forward to reach the final room. Here, you’ll have to battle a bunch of enemies including an Iron Tengubefore activating the Astral Shrine. This will bring the Twilight Gaol dungeon to an end.

How To Beat The Hidden Maze

As mentioned above, after the first two choices, you can enter a hidden maze in the Twilight Gaol area by breaking a few crates. As soon as you enter the room after breaking the crates, you can first go behind the white flags on the right edge and jump over the haystackto reach the chest on the other side.

After getting this chest, keep moving forward andactivate the red-colored fan mechanism to open the door to the maze. After entering, activate the second fan mechanism on the left and you’re able to reach another chest. Take this chest and move to the other side of the room where you can find another chest in a small marble structure.

You can get a bunch of Magatama in these chests, which canbe useful to give yourself small buffsby equipping them to your weapons and armor.

From the marble chest, you’re able to use theteleport in the corner of the room to directly get to the last chest here. Take this chest and use the other teleport to head back to the same marble structure. From here, move deeper into the maze past the marble structure and you’ll see another fan in red color.

Interact with it and head back to the start of the maze, where you’ll find a cogwheel that you can jump on. With this cogwheel, you can jump through the wall on your left (according to the map) and activate another red-colored fan inside. Now, head back out of the maze and deactivate the first fan to close the door.

You can then use the new cogwheel out here to get back inside.Head back to the teleport near the marble statue and use it to easily get to the final Frog Statuein this maze. This will give you the Gold Bracelet recipe, and you can then head back out.
