Despite besting Prince Ahzrak in single combat,Doom: The Dark Agesisn’t over yet. His escape in Chapter 21 sets up Chapter 22 and the real final boss fight, where you’ll face him alongside his witch companion.
This encounter is largely similar to your previous battle with Ahzrak, with the notable wrinkle that you’ll now need to focus on multiple enemies instead of one. Although this is the last combat sequence of the game’s story, it’s quite easy and can be completed much quicker than other boss fights with less significant enemies.
Phase One
The final battle can besplit pretty neatly into two halves: the first where you’refighting both Ahzrak and the witch, and the second whereyou’re alone with the Prince. When it begins, the witch willengulf herself in a force field, so you’ll initially need to focus on Ahzrak.
He will employmany of the same spear combosyou’ve seen in the past, but the witch willlaunch energy projectiles at you simultaneouslyto make your life more difficult. You candodge them with easedue to their wide spread, so focus onparrying Ahzrak’s strikesand punching back withSuper Shotgun or melee.
Ahzrak and the witch share the same health bar, so damaging one will also hurt the other.
After some time has passed, the force field will shift, now covering the Prince. You’ll need torefocus on the witch, who willattempt to run awaywhile peppering you with more projectiles.Close the gap with a shield charge, thenlay into her with gunshots and meleeuntil she flees again.
After dealing enough damage, both Ahzrak and the witch will be surrounded by force fields, and the Prince willshoot a few fireballs at you, none of which can be parried. Once this has finished, his protection will disappear, and you’ll be back to fighting him.
The force field will continue tobounce back and forth between both enemiesuntil their health bar is depleted, at which point you canperform an execution on the witch, ending the first phase.
Phase Two
Now you’re alone with Ahzrak once again. Honestly, it’sincredibly easy to bully himat this point. His mobility is noticeably slowerthan his previous boss fight, perhaps due to the fact thathe’s no longer enhanced in any way.
Youwon’t need to worry about avoiding any difficult attacks, and can honestly stand still in front of him, parrying strikesbefore beginning a beatdown of your own.Continue attackinguntil Ahzrak’s health bar is no more, and you’ll begreeted with the final cutscene and credits. Congratulations on finishing The Dark Ages!
