While exploring the nations of Highland and Jowston inSuikoden 2’s HD Remaster, there are several interesting places to find with ferocious monsters awaiting you inside. Of these different explorable locations, the first one that most players will take a keen interest in will be the Sindar Ruins, the first major dungeon of the game.

Navigating the Sindar Ruins can be difficult, due to the complex nature of the puzzles in this dungeon, as well as the fact that the story randomly assigns your party members prior to entering this area. This guide will detail how to properly prepare for your exploration of the Sindar Ruins and how to navigate it once you’re inside.

Preparation

Since the Sindar Ruins are the first major dungeon in the game, there isn’t too much you need to do preparation-wise before you’re ready to take it on. However, since your team may not be exactly as you’d like it to be, you may want to take some time to properly equip your party.

To the southwest of Muse City is a place calledCoronet Town. Hereyou can restock any items you may need,as well asvisit a blacksmith who can upgrade your weapons up to level five.

It is worth noting that, since the team you currently have may not be the team you want to use long-term,it may be best to prioritize your upgrades on your player character and Jowyabove your other party members.

In terms of team level, it can be a bit hard to ensure that your entire team is at an adequate level, since you don’t have a choice as to who you take with you for this part of the story. With that being said, having your team at an average level of around 10 will put you in a suitable level range, allowing your lower-level characters to get lots of experience while being supported by your stronger units.

Apart from that, ensure that your party members have the proper defensive equipment and are in a suitable formation, then head into the Sindar Ruins to begin your first major dungeon.

The Sindar Ruins

First and foremost, to get to the Sindar Ruins, head to the White Deer Inn area and take the path north. Once you’ve progressed enough in the story, Alex will open the door to the ruins for you, allowing you to enter the dungeon.

Inside the first room, all you need to do to progress isinteract with the small pedestal to the right of the door. Do this and then enter the newly opened door.

The door that can be opened using the Round Plate in Suikoden II HD Remaster.

You’ll enter an outdoor path that will eventually split into two.Take the left path to find two chests, the left one containing three Mega Medicines and the right one containing a Stone of Magic. Once you’ve opened these chests, head back to the fork in the road and take the other path. You’ll reach another fork in the road, butthe path south leads to a dead end, so head north to the next screen.

Continue north andcross the bridge to your right. Once you’re across, head up to find a chest with some Gauntlets inside. Once you’ve collected that, head down and then turn left toward the river in the center of the area. Head north from here until you reach the next screen.

A four-way fork in the road that acts as the center of the Sindar Ruins in Suikoden II HD Remaster.

On the next screen, you’ll see a closed door and a bridge. Cross the bridge and make your way to the area on the next screen with six statues. One of these statues will be next to a button, so push the statue back onto the buttonto open the nearby door.

Entering the newly opened door will lead you to two more statues and a treasure chest. Inside the chest is a pair of Shoulder Pads.Ahead of you should be a Round Plate sitting atop a pedestal, which you caninteract with to obtain.

Once you’ve obtained the Round Plate, head back the way you came until you cross the bridge next to the sealed door. You should see a round indent that you may interact with to slot the Round Plate inside, opening the previously sealed door.

Heading past the newly opened door, you’ll reach a four-way fork in the road. First, head left across the bridge and then up to obtain the Triangle Plate, which you need to lower the water in the area. Head further left to find a chest with aFire Lizard Orbinside.

With the Triangle Plate in hand, head back to the four-way fork andhead north, then take the first right.Follow the pathuntil you reach the top of along staircase to insert the Triangle Plate into the indent to stop the flow of water.

With the water now drained from the area, there are several more places to explore. Head back to the previous screen and then north to enter the area previously filled with water.Go further north to find a treasure chest with some Chain Mail, then head to the main river andgo south until you reach a previously unreachable treasure chest for a Water Orb.

The party facing off against Double Head, the boss of the Sinder Ruins, in Suikoden II HD Remaster.

From where you picked up the Water Orb,head north and then take your first left.Follow this path to find theSquare Plate. To use it, headback to the original four-way forkin the road and take thepath to the right. Follow this path to the end to reach asealed door and a square indentwhere you can place the Square Plate you just obtained.

Opening this sealed door will revealtwo chests: one containing aMagic Drain Orb, and the other containing anOld Book Vol. 2. These are thelast major items hidden in this dungeon before the boss.

Once you’ve obtained all the items in the dungeon, head back to the original four-way fork in the road, then head north and take your first left. You’ll reach an area with a sealed door with a square indent, as well as a journeyman orb. Save with the journeyman orb, heal up your party, and then use the Square Plate to open up the door and make your way to the boss of this area: Double Head.

Boss Fight: Double Head

Your reward for making your way through this dungeon in hopes of finding treasure isa giant two-headed snake known as Double Head. In all honesty, this fight shouldn’t be too hard if you’ve been fighting random encounters in this dungeon, which should strengthen your team quite a bit.

Like many fights up until this point in the game, your most valuable team members are going to be your main character and Jowy, especially since they recently got their signature runes.

Your main character can provide a group heal to all six of your party members if you need it, while Jowy’s rune can output very high amounts of damage at this point in the game.

While your team composition may vary from ours, we do have some advice about what to do with your other team members. If you have unite attacks available (aisde from your main character and Jowy’s Buddy Attack, which isn’t that useful here), use them at any chance you get. In particular, your main character and Nanami’s unite attack, Family Attack, can consistently produce good damage against this boss.

If you are lucky enough tohave Zamza in your party for this fight, his Fire Dragon Rune can deal significant damage to Double Headand can be used infinitely, with the small trade-off that it does a bit of damage to Zamza every time you use it. Thankfully, you’re able to offset this either with medicine or with your main character’s healing rune.

Double Head doesn’t do a ton of damage with each attack, so as long as you’re outputting consistent damage and keeping your party healed, you should make it through this fight with no problem. Once you defeat the boss, head forward to obtain the treasure, then leave the dungeon to continue on your quest.
