Death Stranding 2: On The Beachis a big game. Anyone who played Kojima Productions’ original post-apocalyptic delivery/hiking/ghost-fighting simulator won’t be too surprised about this, but that doesn’t stop the sequel from being any less sprawling.
Even if you only intend to tackle the main story while casting aside most optional orders and deliveries, you are still looking down the barrel of an experience that is longer than most big games nowadays. Sam Porter Bridges’ journey across Australia and Mexico is a true ordeal, and one that will take you tens of hours to get through. Here’s how long exactly.
How Long Does It Take To Beat The Story?
The main story of Death Stranding 2 consists of17 episodesand will take anywhere from30 to 50 hoursto finish, depending on how long you decide to spend on side quests and general exploration of the open world.
During my review playthrough, I spent plenty of time recruiting new porters and linking up the countries of Australia and Mexico, neglecting the campaign forat leastten hours of the 48 I’d spent reaching the end credits.
Cutscenes also factor into the overall runtime of each playthrough, of which there are a bunch during the third and final act.
However,no single player is going to play Death Stranding 2 in the exact same way. If you’re the type to make use of vehicles whenever possible, it could shave your overall playtime by a number of hours, while a reliance on hiking with your own two feet has the opposite effect.
I landed somewhere in the middle but found myself rushing through the third act and putting aside the option to recruit new porters to the chiral network despite being given the option of doing so through a number of side orders.
How Long Does It Take To Reach 100 Percent Completion?
Upon completion of the main campaign, you will be transported back to your private roomafter a deluge of cutscenes and screens showing your end-of-game stats. This, much like the original game, marks the moment where you’re allowed back into the open world.
you’re able to complete any orders missed before the credits roll or return to finishing missions in order to get each node on the viral network to the coveted five-star rating. Doing so will reward Sam with additional resources, weapons, and equipment too, alongside secrets I’m not going to spoil here.
But when it comes to completing everything that Death Stranding 2 has to offer, including the linking of every single part of the chiral network, completing every single order, and assisting in building every single major structure across the open world,it’s going to take you at least 60 hours.
