Summary
FromAnimethatdeal with the supernaturalto those that have the main protagonist save the world, you will constantly be presented with the show’s world, power levels, and the scaling of those powers among the characters, which can go from zero to godlike in the blink of an eye.
For some viewers, this is expected and is even the main reason they’re watching. And for others, it can outright ruin the show, as things begin to go off the wall. Nonetheless, there are tons of examples of when things get out of hand, especially in the shonen genre, but which is the most ridiculous?
8One Punch Man
Is This Considered Scaling?
Saitama, as the title of the show many imply, is the One Punch Man and can obliterate any threat with a single punch, making him the strongest being in Z-City. While there really isn’t scaling on his end, getting to see stronger and stronger threats show up to try and defeat him is endlessly entertaining.
One Punch Man is the prime example of an unbelievably broken character who always comes out on top no matter the obstacles placed in front of him.The action is also always top-notch,giving us visual eyecandy anytime anything dares to challenge Saitama!
7Mob Psycho 100
Overflowing With Emotion And Power
Written and illustrated by ONE (Tomohiro), who is also the creator of One Punch Man, is Mob Psycho 100, which follows a middle schooler named Mob who possesses immensely strong psychic powers. The catch is that hebecomes stronger and stronger as his emotions begin to well upwithin him.
Once Mob’s emotions get pushed to the limit and reach 100 percent, he becomes godlike. He can obliterate practically anything in his pathway, even allowing him to go beyond his limits, reaching ‘???’ levels, making him outright uncontestible and horrifying!
6Fairy Tail
Don’t Underestimate The Power Of Friendship
Fairy Tails' power scaling is a bit odd, as it’s a bit random and can come from various sources. For example, Natsu gains his power from consuming strong sources of fire, allowing him toessentially become unbeatable in an instantif he gathers an extreme wealth of flames.
Then there’s the tried and true ‘power of friendship,’ where one of the heroes will be getting beaten pretty bad before suddenly realizing they have their friends before becoming the strongest character in the show for that brief moment to win the fight. It’s ridiculous but undeniably fun if you can overlook its silliness!
5Overlord
Commanding An Army Of Broken Characters
Shifting the focus from heroes, it’s time to dive into Overlord, which follows Ainz, a villain who wishes to take over the world. And he possesses the power to do just that, as do his servants, who are also beyond broken, making for some of the most brutal and devastating encounters in anime.
Every character in Ainz’s orbit is ridiculously overpowered, and they all continue getting stronger, even Ainz himself. This show is the description of power fantasy, and it only escalates the more you watch it. It’s a must-watch for those seeking unrivaled strength and exhilarating action!
4Gurren Lagann
This One Really ‘Spirals’ Out Of Control
On the surface, Gurren Lagann is aparody of beloved mecha anime, which starts with the high-octane action you’d expect from the genre before quickly escalating, taking on elements from Evangelion and FLCL, where things really begin to spiral.
Gurren Lagann is excellent for this type of ridiculous power scaling, as you get to see everyone reach absurd levels of strength, usually culminating with one of the sickest battles ever, then calming down for a bit before it escalates again!
3Solo Leveling
Broken From The Start And Only Getting Stronger
Despite being newer, we can already see where Solo Leveling is going, asJin-woo is pretty bustedfrom the moment the show begins, and wastes no time getting even stronger and seemingly unstoppable. But, hey, it’s still entertaining to see unfold.
Solo Leveling’s battles are beyond stunning, and the choreography is perfect, delivering precisely what we want when power scaling is instantly off the charts and continues to climb. Don’t let the zeitgeist steer you away from some of the best action available in the genre!
2Naruto: Shippuden
From Ninjas To Literal Gods
While not as ridiculous as some of the others initially,Naruto: Shippudenquickly reaches those levels during the Fourth Shinobi World War arc, as Naruto andSasuke receive powers from the Sage of the Six Paths, seemingly making them as strong as gods.
During this arc, a Celestial Being named Kaguya Ōtsutsuki gets revived by Black Zetsu, forcing Sasuke and Naruto to work together to defeat her. She has the power of a god, but is ultimately no match for them, as they, too, have the same power. Quite the shakeup from the first season, yeah?
1Dragon Ball (Series)
Where Does The Scaling End?
Lastly, of course, isDragon Ball. Not any specific one, just the series in general, especially from Dragon Ball Z onward, as Goku just doesn’t stop getting more and more powerful. Goku has 21 forms in total, so far, which is bonkers in its own right.
Dragon Ball is the king of absurd and out-of-control power scaling, which is what makes it so fun and enjoyable to watch. The fights are alsovisually appealing and continue to improve. There’s no denying that this series is the best at what it does!
