The Legend of Zeldagames have plenty of aspects they are renowned for. The great selection of gadgets, the memorable locales, the challenging puzzles, the meandering dungeons, and plenty more. But few stand above the many characters in the series and how, well, eccentric they can be. Chief amongst those being Beedle.

This wandering salesman has become a favourite of fans, willing to go any distance to make a sale. Literally, in most cases. Beedle is very confident in his business, and will reach a customer wherever they are. But how far exactly is he willing to travel? Very far, it would seem. So let’s see just how much he travels in every game he appears in.

Obviously, with each game going off very different scales, there’s not an exact math to working this out, and has a decent bit of assumption used to come to our conclusions.

The Minish Cap features Beedle in his second canonical appearance, and his first in a handheld format. Unlike his traveling shop ship in The Wind Waker, Beedle is decidedly settled here. He appears in Hyrule Town right in the center, setting up shop once of the dormant mats is tidied up withthe help of the Gust Jar.

And that’s it. He does not move from this spot. He is an eccentric fellow by all means still, but also a sedentary one. He sells you some wonderfully powerful and unique Picolytes, but is not bothered moving to bring those sales to you. Clearly this version of Beedle must be running a very successful business to not literally have to run after prospective customers.

Skyward Sword marks Beedle’s fifth appearance in the series, this time far above the clouds in SKyloft, home of the people that would later become Hylians. Yet even among this relatively small cohort, that won’t stop Beedle from making a sale, budding entrepreneur and inventor that he is. Indeed, this time Beedle operates from a flying shop that you must signal him to open to gain entry.

He’s more ever-present this time around, offering you plenty of unique gear and even involved in some sidequests of his own. He’s also not afraid to engage in dirty business traps, literally ejecting you from his store if you refuse to make a purchase. However, the populated areas of Skyloft are few and far between, meaning this version of Beedle does not travel all that significantly far. No denying a mini airship isn’t a good marketing tool to draw people in however, no matter how small his customer base might be.

Spirit Tracks marks the third entry in the series with Toon Link, and the fourth game in which Beedle makes an appearance. Carrying over his Skyloft ancestor’s idea, Beedle has now set himself up in a Hot Air Balloon and floats hither and dither across the landscape of the newly-formed and aptly-named New Hyrule. With Link in a train of his own, he is finally on somewhat even footing with Beedle.

Like before, this version of Beedle offers plenty of wares, though is alsoa much friendlier salesmanthan the last time he took to the skies. Floating across the vast expanse of New Hyrule, it’s hard to say quite how much distance that is. It is undeniably long, though likely not quite as large as the previous Hyrule that sunk beneath the waves. At least he’s prepared this time for if this continent becomes sunken.

Beedle once again appears in both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. While these are two separate games, the Hyrule you travel through is much the same. Well, it’s quite different for Link, but Beedle keeps himself firmly on the ground in both games. No taking to the newly-populated skies this time. In fact, Beedle has no vehicles whatsoever. Just a true merchant’s spirit.

In this duo of games, Beedle walks. Everywhere. You can literally follow him to see how far he travels between stables. He is very dedicated, lugging that massive sack everywhere, though is also happy to offer you up some rupees if you can find some beetles. You could argue that he covers more ground in Spirit Tracks with his hot air balloon, though the journey here is undeniably more arduous, which pushes it slightly ahead in our rankings.

Hyrule is surrounded by water on most of its borders in the vast majority of games, and in some of those games, we get to see what would happen if Hyrule was suddenly completely submerged. It would remove most of the land, yes, but also open upa lot more ocean to sail across. No need for walking when you can get some sea legs instead. And Beedle is no stranger to an ocean’s worth of sales.

Returning from The Wind Waker, Beedle once again sails the World of the Ocean King in his trusty Shop Ship, offering much the same services he did in his The Wind Waker, including some very enticing membership points. There’s not much more to say here. The World of the Ocean King is very large, and Beedle sails the length of it hawking his wares.

So how do you surpass sailing an ocean? Find an even bigger one! Beedle’s very first appearance was in The Wind Waker, and it still remains the farthest distance he has traveled across every game he is in. Across the whole ocean you’re able to find his Shop Ship and the many goodies it has on offer. His loyalty points started here too, rewarding you with some exciting prizes.

Now, we cannot strictly say that the sunken Hyrule is bigger than the World of the Ocean King. They are both very large bodies of water with few spots of land. However, the sunken Hyrule most definitely feels a lot bigger, and we already know Hyrule is a very large landmass. So in that sense, Beedle has never crossed so large as swath of land as the length of Hyrule combined with its surroundings waters.
