Summary
Who doesn’t love a moody detective, worn down by the horrible realities of a world that refuses to change? Bonus points if they’re one job from retirement, or have been pulled from retirement for one last job that only they can do.
Hotel Dusk: Room 215’s protagonist, Detective Kyle Hyde, is self-destructive, sardonic, and impatient. He’s an ex-detective now working as a door-to-door salesman, who is compelled to put on his detective hat one last time because of all the mysterious incidents occurring in his vicinity.
If that sounds compelling to you, then you may be interested to know that Nintendo has fileda new trademarkfor Hotel Dusk: Room 215.
Wish Room
The game was originally released on the Nintendo DS in 2006, having been developed by the now-defunct company Cing, a Japanese developer that primarily made point-and-click adventure games. A sequel, Last Window: The Secret of Cape West, was released in 2010, the last game released by Cing before the studio was shuttered.
Normally, a company renewing a trademark isn’t any cause for speculation. It’s simply done to protect intellectual property rights in case the company ever wants to use the trademark in the future. However, Hotel Dusk: Room 215 is the international name for the game. The game was released as Wish Room: Angel’s Memory in Japan, a trademark that Nintendo already holds until 2026.
There’s a chance that Nintendo has filed a trademark for the game’s international title because it’s planning a remake or re-release. Considering how heavily Hotel Dusk: Room 215 relied on the Nintendo DS’s unique functions, any re-release would almost have to be a remake, as aspects of the game need to be changed for modern hardware.
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and its sequel have always had vocal, effusive fan bases, even though the games never reached the popularity of comparable, more puzzle-heavy titles like Professor Layton. There’s a chance that Nintendo plans to remake both titles and bundle them into a collection of sorts, but that’s all conjecture on my part.
With any luck, we’ll be reunited with Kyle Hyde in the near future.
