Summary
It’s safe to say that theHollow Knight: Silksongcommunity is in shambles. After multiple Steam updates thatseemed to indicate a launch was imminent, claims from insiders, and an announcement that the gamewould be appearing at an Australian exhibit, there was hope and expectation that the game would appear, and potentially shadow drop during one of this year’s summer showcases.
The PlayStation event came and went, and, unsurprisingly, Silksong wasn’t there. This was no surprise since it hadn’t shown up at a PlayStation event before, and there were still two big ones, so hopes remained high. Geoff Keighley’sSummer Game Festthen happened, and, once again, Silksong was absent, aside froma joke in a Deadpool VR game reveal trailer, pinning all hopes on Xbox. Of course, although Xbox name-checked the game and showed off a little footage duringthe reveal of its new handheld, announcing it would be coming to Game Pass and the ROG Xbox Ally on day one in the process, there wasn’t much for fans to get excited about. And that was that. Or at least they thought.
In a new update to the community, Hollow Knight: Silksong publisher Matthew Griffin shared a release window for the game, adding that it’s not tied to the release of any console.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Now Has A Slightly Narrower Release Window
In a new post in the Hollow Knight: SilksongDiscord Server, first spotted by members of the Silksongsubreddit, Matthew Griffin, who is in charge of marketing and publishing for Hollow Knight (and the excellent-looking Crowsworn), said, “I confirmed BEFORE Holiday - we are not tied to a console release.”
There are a few things that can be taken from this message. Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to release before the holiday period in 2025, suggesting we might see it sometime between August and October.
Given the radio silence surrounding the game, it’s also clear Griffin was aware of the growing discontent in the Silksong community, so he had to say something to appease fans. He was also seemingly aware that the messaging around the game in Xbox’s Ally handheld announcement was a little unclear.
I confirmed BEFORE Holiday - we are not tied to a console release.
During its announcement, Xbox President Sarah Bond said, “The highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available at launch and available on Game Pass when it releases later this year.” This left fans confused.
Was Silksong launching on the same day as the Xbox Ally X? Was it launching first, and would it just be available on the Xbox Ally when that launched? It wasn’t clear. Thankfully, Griffin clarified things, confirming the game isn’t tied to the Xbox Ally’s release and will do its own thing.
It’s not much, especially given the absence across the three big showcases, but at least Hollow Knight: Silksong fans have a little something to cling onto, knowing the game will release in the next few months.
