Summary
Hollow Knight: Silksong,The Elder Scrolls 6, Half-Life 3 and, of course, my own white whale, Viva Piñata 3. These fan bases are united by their shared experiences waiting an unreasonable length of time for a sequel to their respective favourite games.
Well, the so-called Silksongers have won a spiritual victory today.Today’s official announcementthat Grand Theft Auto 6 will be delayed until May 2026 means there’s now a strong chance that Silksong will be released before Rockstar’s presumptive mega-hit.
Spiritual Victory
Several Reddit threads have cropped up on the Silksong subreddit, each one celebrating this supposed victory. “We are getting Silksong before GTA 6,” writesH1ghP1ckHEGALE. “Rockstar is so scared,” reads the title ofSketchek_X’spost, which posits that GTA 6 was delayed to avoid clashing with Silksong’s release.
It’s difficult to say whether Hollow Knight fans in 2017 expected a sequel before Grand Theft Auto 6, but either way, their victory looks assured. We got Silksong before Grand Theft Auto 6, The Elder Scrolls 6 and Half-Life 3 will be the rallying cry on the lips of Silksongers around the world.
Team Cherry, just like Rockstar, has become known for release date delays. Although a marketing and publishing representative from Team Cherry, Matthew Griffin, announced earlier this year that Silksong is still planned for release this year, fans have remained sceptical.
Recently, an Australian museum announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong will beplayable at their exhibiton September 18, suggesting Silksong will have been released by this date. It’s not an official guarantee, but it’s certainly a positive sign that Team Cherry has agreed on this specific date with the museum.
Before today’s announcement, the radio silence surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 suggested an imminent release was becoming less likely as time wore on. The opposite is true for Silksong, which is beginning to exhibit more signs that the sequel will be released this year after all.
