I woke up this morning at 7am, pretty groggy. I hadn’t had my coffee yet, but while I waited for it to brew, I swiped open Reddit to see what the hubbub of the day was.
“NO FU**ING WAY WE GOT HALF-LIFE BEFORE SKONG,“the first post read. Attached was a screenshot of a “Half-Life: White Sands Announcement Trailer”. Finally! Has it happened? IsHalf-Life 3real?
There was maybe a split second of excitement, followed by immediate doubt, and then the realisation sank in. Ah, this is theHollow Knight Silksongsubreddit. I didn’t even bother to look for the trailer on YouTube to verify that it was fake. The fact that it was posted two days ago and the internet hadn’t imploded from Half-Life 3 being confirmed was proof enough.
I DO NOT EVEN FOLLOW THIS SUB PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE—u/wodzu96.
Get used to it, though. The Hollow Knight subreddit is so fed up waiting for Silksong, and getting bored with its own ‘Silkposts’, that it’s starting to target other copium games with fake announcements.
Just last night,u/BasicallyAlto posted a falsified tweet from Respawn, where it attached a photo of the number ‘3’ in theTitanfallfont. “We’re really so desperate we’re spreading misinformation about other games now,” u/GreenChuJelly commented. “Never change, skongers.”
“Silkposting Has Officially Gone Too Far”
Thankfully, it’s contained to Titanfall and Half-Life fans right now, who are (upsettingly) used to bait.Valve even poked fun at the ‘can’t count to 3’ jokes recentlywith its own littleCounter-Strikegag. But when it hits the fresher copium communities, likeGTA 6andBloodborne, then we’ll be in for a real treat.
Fu** y’all, I hope your game never releases—u/weliveintrashytimes.
There are a couple of angry comments, sure, but even those who got caught up in the bait congratulated OP for their Silkposting; “Okay, this one hurt. Well done,” one such reply from u/TifaBetterThanAerith reads. For the most part, fans are rolling with the punches, bringing together a bunch of desperate communities who have been waiting on tenterhooks for years now. Maybe Silksong, Half-Life 3, and Titanfall 3 are the friends we made along the way, eh?
