Hideo Kojimais definitely one of the gaming industry’s oddest characters, coming up with absurd game concepts and ideas that make his titles truly one-of-a-kind.Only a man like Hideo Kojima could come up with Death Stranding 2, a game that has you engaging in a martial arts fight with a man who really loves pizza.
That doesn’t mean he doesn’t take his work seriously though, and he goes to great lengths to make sure his games are as accurate as possible. For example,in a recent interview with Ssense(thanks GamesRadar), Kojima reveals that he recently went to a big studio to advise on a new stealth game that’s in development (the exact game isn’t mentioned), and claims that he wasn’t impressed by what he saw.
That’s partly because he thought it was “kind of sad” that the developers of said game didn’t have real-world military experience, claiming that they probably “don’t know how to dismantle a gun or shoot a gun”, and thus couldn’t make their game more authentic.
Hideo Kojima Knows “So Many Ways To Kill People” Following Military Training
I don’t think you need to know how to dismantle a gun to make a good shooter, but I suppose it kind of makes sense. However, Kojima then goes on to make an admission that should probably make us all wary of ever badmouthing his work when he’s close by, as he claims to have been doing “training” that has taught him “so many ways to kill people”. Ummm… okay?
Kojima neither elaborates on this comment, nor goes into detail about the training he’s been receiving, but it’s deeply troubling to know a man as eccentric as him apparently knows “so many” ways to put you in a body bag. Then again, it would be a little strange if he didn’t pick up a few things during his time working onMetal GearandDeath Stranding, especially with how much they both focus on attention to detail.
Interestingly, Kojima also says that he felt a little disappointedduring this year’s Summer Games Fest showcase, as he felt too many games shown off had the player fighting monsters, and that “even the visuals and the systems are pretty much the same”. To that end, Kojima thinks it’s important to “put something really new in there for the industry”, and I guess that’s what we can count on him for. Well that, and advice on how to kill a person.
