Summary

Back in December, Games Workshops revealed that theWarhammer 40,000 live action adaptation in collaboration with Henry Cavill and Amazon was green lighted. After lengthy discussions about which stories in the 40K universe the project will focus on, it seems that all parties are in agreement, much to the excitement of fans.

Henry Cavill has been viewed as the catalyst behind this project, after losing his roles asSupermanand Geralt in Netflix’s The Witcher. The actor has always made his love for Warhammer 40K well known, and fans have kept their faith in his hands. However, it’s been radio silence from everyone since then. It’s still early days, but Cavill did mention some of the hurdles that the project has been facing.

In The Grim Darkness Of The Far Future, There Is Only Henry Cavill

In a conversation withEsquire, Cavill talked about the challenges that come with taking on an IP as in-depth as Warhammer 40,000. He mentioned that bringing the lore to life “is a dream come true.” However, with decades worth of content and events, realising it on screen would be tough, especially in terms of staying true to the source material.

“But it’s different from what I’ve done before, in the sense I haven’t had my hand on the tiller of things before,” added Cavill. “It’s wonderful doing that. It is a tricky IP, and a very complex IP, and that’s what I love about it. The challenges that come with putting this on the page in a way that is doing justice to that complexity, that trickiness, and that nuance, is a challenge I’m enjoying enormously.”

While we still don’t know which part of the Warhammer 40K lore the project will aim to adapt, Games Workshop made it sound like it could be an anthology. “Well, it means we now have synopsis and ordering for the stories we’re going to tell… yep, we said stories,” said the announcement at the time.
