Helldivers 2players will be getting some much-needed reinforcements later this year, as developer Arrowhead announced thatthe game will be coming to Xbox on August 26. It was quite a big surprise to many, as PlayStation-published games coming to its rival’s console are exceedingly rare, with MLB The Show being the only series at the moment.

Helldivers 2 heading to Xbox is a major shift in strategy for PlayStation, which has done its best to keep its best games from being released on the system, even after expanding into the PC market in recent years. Most Helldivers 2 players are pretty happy about the move, though it does seem there are a sizable number of PlayStation fans also concerned.

Helldivers 2’s Xbox Port Has Upset Some PlayStation Fans

In a poll conducted by PlayStation-focused outlet PushSquare, 26 percent of people surveyed admitted they were concerned about Sony potentially diluting its brand with this move, and those worries have been cropping up on social media ever since the announcement. For example,a Reddit user called Sampson3121recently wondered why they even need a PlayStation console now, especially coupled with the rumors that Xbox’s next console will incorporate Steam.

Meanwhile,a Twitter user called OrigiGreatnessclaimed that PlayStation is “run by a bunch of idiots”, as they struggled to understand why the company would trade in exclusivity rights for a handful of extra sales. You even have people in that same Twitter thread already declaring that PlayStation is now clearly going third-party, in a similar way to Xbox.

you’re able to even find discontentment on the PlayStation Blog, in a post that announced that revealed last month’s top-sellers on PlayStation. A comment by a person called Ozgamer16, who is worried about the state of the PlayStation brand, claimed that the path the company is currently on is “the exact path that got Xbox where it is”.

That’s a bit dramatic, as are the claims that PlayStation is going fully third-party now. It’s worth noting that while PlayStation publishes Helldivers 2 and is strongly associated with the title, it’s not a first-party game, as PlayStation doesn’t actually own Arrowhead. We’re yet to see a big first-party game on Xbox just yet, so until we seeHorizon Zero Dawnon Xbox Series X/S, I think PlayStation fans are just fine right now.
