Summary
It hasn’t been a good few years for Halo fans. WhileHalo Infinitewas supposed to be the answer to their prayers, thesevere lack of content for multiplayer contentwas a major disappointment. The Paramount Halo show didn’t help boost numbers either. While that looked like the final nail in the coffin for the series, it seems Microsoft is not done with it yet.
While there was no big reveal or confirmation, it seems Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer teased the return of the series during the recentXbox showcase. He didn’t specifically mention Halo, but the recent rumours about an imminent Halo announcement has made fans think that a new title could be on the way.
A New Halo Title Could Be In The Works
Towards the end of the showcase, Spencer capped off all the announcements and reveals with a small glimpse of what fans can expect over the current and next year from Microsoft. “As we think about bringing a new generation of players to these iconic franchises I’m excited to share that players will get to celebrate 25 years of Xbox with a new Fable, the next Forza, Gears of War: E-Day, and the return of a classic that’s been with us since the beginning,” he said.
While the statement confirmed that the next game in the Forza series is in development, it didn’t really come as a surprise. However, the “classic that’s been with us since the beginning” caught everyone’s attention. Halo fits this description perfectly, and, if rumours are to be believed, it could be a Halo: Combat Evolved remaster or a new entry to the series.
Of course, this is all just an assumption, and nothing has officially been revealed by Microsoft. However, Halo insider, Rebs Gaming said last month that Halo Studios (previously 343 Industries) issetting up for a “big announcement” later this year. They apparently learned of this at the Halo Championship Series in Dallas.
So for if it will be a remaster or a new title, Halo Studios might want to play it safe at first, given the IP’s current reputation. The devs could look to fellow Microsoft studio Bethesda, which found great success with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.
