Halois in a bit of a state right now, with morale at the developer of the series reportedly at an all-time lowfollowinga brutal round of layoffs at Microsoft and Xbox. It’s looking bleak for the future of the series, but Phil Spencer gave fans a slight glimmer of hopeduring this year’s Xbox Games Showcase, claiming we’ll see “the return of a classic that’s been with us since the beginning” at some point next year.
A new announcement during this year’s Halo World Championship was also teased by Halo Studios last month, as it explained thatit will be revealing what it’s been working on during the event, which is scheduled to take place this October. It sounds like a Halo: Combat Evolved remake is on the cards, which would be a welcome announcement for a series that’s in desperate need of a reboot.
Halo: Combat Evolved’s Remake Reportedly Won’t Have Multiplayer
Unfortunately, a lot of the potential excitement for a Halo: Combat Evolved remake has waned significantly, thanks to comments made by Halo insider RebsGaming. In his most recent YouTube video(thanksInsiderGaming), RebsGaming claims that “multiple sources” of his have stated that while a Halo anniversary project is scheduled to release in 2026, they “have not heard anything about multiplayer”.
That means we’re potentially looking at a campaign-only remake, which would be hugely disappointing considering Halo’s multiplayer is so beloved among the community. One of the biggest complaints about the Master Chief Collection’s remaster of Combat Evolved was its lack of multiplayer, so it’s disappointing that it’s being left out once again, despite this sounding more like a full-scale remake this time around.
RebsGaming also claims that Halo could potentially launch on PlayStation too, which wouldn’t be all that surprising considering both Forza and Gears of War have already made the jump.
Of course, none of this information has been confirmed by either Halo Studios or Xbox just yet, so it’s worth taking with a pinch of salt, but it’s also worth bracing for disappointment if you were hoping to play Halo: Combat Evolved’s remake with some buddies.
