Summary
Over the last few months, it seems like development onHalf-Life 3has really kicked it up another gear— even if we’ve not heard anything from official sources.
Various insiders have sharedtidbits about the game, which is still internally titled HLX. A Deadlock update may have hinted that the game is in “late-stage development.” Mysteriouslistings have begun to appear on Steam. And one Valve artist has claimed they were “in the room where Half-Life 3 is made.” But there’s still nothing official from the company itself.
In the void of anything fromValve, another reliable insider has shared what they’ve heard about the game, confirming that “at least it will be announced this year.”
Half-Life 3 Should Be Announced This Year, Now Playable End-to-End
YouTuberTyler McVickerhas been at the forefront of the HLX reporting scene. He’s been uploading videos for months, sharing intricate details about Valve’s secret-not-so-secret title, and clearly has the inside track on development.
Yesterday, McVicker streamed forover three hours, “letting off steam,” allowing his audience to ask him questions about the game. There were some interesting responses.
First, McVicker was simply asked when the game would be coming, to which he responded, “Probably this year, or at least it will be announced this year.” While that’s nothing particularly new, it’s yet another instance of somebody slating the game or its announcement for 2025.
What is potentially more exciting, though, is McVicker’s understanding of how far along the game is through development.
“This is the furthest it’s ever been. Period. The game is playable end-to-end. Period,” he said. “It’s never been that far, and they’re optimizing. They’re polishing. They’re probably content locked, or if they’re not, they are mechanic locked.”

Earlier in the stream, McVicker stated that the game is being “playtested so religiously,” which would make perfect sense if the game were all but finished.
The YouTuber also quashed any concerns that the game would be either VR-only or open-world, with a resounding ‘no’ to both.
