Summary

Everything seems to point at the fact thatHalf-Life 3exists. Reliable insider Tyler McVicker, who has been at the forefront of the HLX (project name for HL3) investigations, has claimed that thegame is playable “from end-to-end”. Meanwhile, a Valve concept artist has said that he was"in the room where they made Half-Life 3."

It seems all that’s remaining is an official announcement by Valve, but as we know, the company works at its own whims and fancies. You’d think that Valve might want to bring back some of the old guard if Half-Life 3 was indeed real, but it seems that some of them wouldn’t return even if asked. At least in the case of veteran series writer Marc Laidlaw.

Marc Laidlaw Would Not Return To Valve Even If Half-Life 3 Was Real

In a conversation withIGN, Laidlaw discussed his short story 400 Boys, which was adapted into a video short for Netflix’s Love, Death, and Robots. However, with all the rumours of Half-Life 3, there was no way Laidlaw could escape a question about it, especially since he was the lead writer of the series.

“I would not do that,” he said, when asked if he’d return if Valve invited him. “I can definitely say I would not do that. Even when I was there, I started to feel like, ‘Oh, now I’m the old guy shooting stuff down.’ I think at some point you need to let the people who are the fans and the creators who’ve come in because of what they learned from you maybe, and let them have that.

“We need new stuff. We didn’t need me going, ‘Well, the G-Man wouldn’t do that in my day.’ And I found I had to restrain myself,” he continued. “People would get enthusiastic about stuff, and I felt like it was becoming a negative force on some of the creative process.”

In fact, he feels that he’d be a hindrance to the current creative process and schedule, if anything. “I don’t know what’s going on with anything. And it is not really my place. God knows what it’s doing in terms of creative process of how to get a great experience that will surprise people. And you have to be right at the edge of what you can do in a moment. And I’m not on that edge anymore. That’s not what’s interesting to me at this point. So I don’t think I’d be good.”
