A fairly reliable insider has claimed thatGrand Theft Auto 6will only be able to reach 60fps on one specific console, and it’s probably the one you’re thinking of.
Without a doubt,GTA 6 looks like it’s going to have some of the best visuals that we’ve ever seen in a video game. That’s no surprise consideringRockstar Gamesis behind it andRed Dead Redemption 2 still looks mind-blowing, but the amazing graphics have raised one massive question - what’s the performance going to be like?
While Grand Theft Auto 6 seems to be pushing modern consoles to their limitthanks to the stunning lighting and all the little details, most players assume thatmeans it won’t have a chance of going past 30fps. Even the strongest consoles on the market look like they’ll struggle with it, but there’s reportedly one outlier.
Looks like you really will need a PS5 Pro to get the most out of GTA 6
At launch that is, since PC players will probably have no problems running it
Over on Twitter,DetectiveSeeds teased that they had a scoop regarding Grand Theft Auto 6’s performance on PlayStation. They then followed up that tease by reporting thatGTA 6 is managing to hit 60fps while being “optimised for the PS5 Pro on multiple graphical settings”. In fact, the PS5 Pro is apparently the only console to achieve 60fps so far.
DetectiveSeeds notes that could change by the time the game launches, but that the PS5 Pro version of the game is comfortably hitting that goal. Not only that, but GTA 6 on PS5 Pro will reportedly have multiple graphical settings, which could mean a performance and quality mode are coming at launch.
If the report is true, it’s not the wildest thing in the world. Not only is the PS5 Pro the most powerful console on the market right now, but it seems that theRockstar and PlayStation marketing dealis what’s allowing all of the work to be done on the Pro version specifically. DetectiveSeeds says that the information comes from a PlayStation marketer who has “provided highly accurate and verified info” before.
Strangely, DetectiveSeeds also seems to be alluding to other Rockstar games having similar work done on them. That could be a little nod to therumoured Red Dead Redemption 2 current-gen upgrade, or maybe something more.
We’ll have to wait and see when Rockstar starts marketing GTA 6 a bit more with PlayStation, but at the very least it’s nice to consider that GTA 6 could run at 60fps on at least one home console.
