Summary
Rockstardecided to break the internet on a random Tuesday earlier this weekby dropping a new trailer for GTA 6, not only completely unannounced, but less than a week afterhitting its next game with a big delay. If you need evidence of how hungry the world is for more GTA, Rockstar has since revealed that the trailer has already been watched almost half a billion times.
Rockstar revealed toThe Hollywood Reporterthat the new trailer racked upa staggering 475 million views within 24 hoursof being shared on Tuesday, blowing a record set by the first trailer for its next game out of the water.GTA 6’s debut trailer was watched 93 million times within a day of being posted exclusively on YouTube, making it the most-watched non-music video in its first 24 hours in the platform’s history, a record it technically still holds.
That’s because, despite Rockstar’s claims the new trailer hit more than five times those of the original trailer in the same timeframe, it has done so by pulling from multiple platforms. The first trailer was a YouTube exclusive, but the new trailer is not. In fact, at 83.6 million views at the time of typing this, trailer two still hasn’t surpassed what the first GTA 6 trailer achieved in 24 hours, and that deadline has long since passed.
Rockstar Claims We’ve Already Watched The GTA 6 Trailer Almost 500 Million Times
People Are Really Excited About This Game, Huh?
Where exactly Rockstar is getting the 475 million figure from is unclear. Along with its 83.6 million YouTube views, the new trailer has also been watched 106 million times on Twitter. That’s still almost 200 million unaccounted-for views, likely from Facebook and other social media platforms where Rockstar dropped the trailer out of nowhere.
If you’re wondering how exactly those numbers compare to other big trailers being dropped out of nowhere, THR has compared it to some of theMCU’s impressive trailer numbers. Deadpool & Wolverine’s first trailer managed 300 million views in 24 hours, whileMarvel’s next jaunt, the Fantastic Four, has a trailer that was watched 200 million times within a day of being shared.
Apparently, all of that equates to GTA 6’s new trailer becoming “the biggest video launch of all time”, or at least that’s what Rockstar is claiming. Whether that’s accurate or not, almost half a billion views in 24 hours is an incredible feat, and I imagine by this point, the trailer’s view count will have long surpassed the 500 million threshold. Still more than a year to go until GTA 6 gets here afterRockstar pushed the launch of its blockbuster to Jul 11, 2025, but I get the feeling people are more than willing to wait.
