Summary
TheGTA 6 trailerworked brilliantly to rekindle the hype forGTA 6. Fans are still talking about thestunning visuals, numerous activities, andtiniest details they’ve spotted. However, with the trailer looking so good, rumours about the game costing $100 were also rekindled. With the game being pushed to next year, Take-Two is also silent on the price.
However, while everyone is raising prices – looking at you, Nintendo – Take-Two has priced Mafia: The Old Country at $50. It’s not often you see a games company cutting prices at a time when everyone is raising them, it could possibly be good news for GTA 6 fans.
Take-Two CEO Talks About GTA 6 Pricing
When asked about this difference in strategy, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said that the company always adopted a “variable pricing” policy (thanksGamesRadar). What this means is that if the company feels that a game is going to more than make up in revenue, then the price will be adjusted accordingly. Such decisions are made on a “rubric […] of delivering way more value to consumers than we charge.”
“We aim to make the best entertainment on Earth and bring that to all consumers, wherever they are, and we need to deliver value in so doing,” he continued. Referring to Mafia: The Old Country specifically, Zelnick added, “we think it’s extraordinary. It looks amazing, and we want to get it into as many hands as we possibly can.”
“Our view is that if you create a huge hit, and everyone wants it and everyone buys it, the revenue is going to take care of itself.”
It’s unclear why Take-Two won’t directly address these $100 rumours for GTA 6, but with the game still a long time away, it doesn’t need to rush the decision. While the delay announcement did not get into specifics, the company will probably wait till the game is fully complete before revealing the price to the public.
Let’s just hope that Zelnick remembers this conversation at the time.
