Summary

Resident Evil 9 was revealed at Summer Game Fest, confirming that it’s called Resident Evil: Requiem, and stars a new protagonist. This time, we’re playing as Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroftfrom Resident Evil Outbreak.

While fans have largely taken a shine to Grace, there is one complaint that we’re seeing online - the faces for the female characters in the franchise are getting a bit… same-y. In fact, some fans thought that Grace was actuallyRosemary Winters, since they look so alike.

Resident Evil Fans Think Grace Looks Too Much Like Other Characters In The Series

“I’m not crazy, right? She looks exactly like a slightly older Rose,” says Reddit user Debracito. “Nothing in the trailer alludes to her possibly being Rose. Still, seems like something they couldn’t have done [by] accident.”

Others thought she might have been another pre-existing female character. “I honestly thought she was Jill at first, and that they retconned Death Island, restoring her original hair color,” replies Afraid-Housing-6854.

This sentiment is shared over on Twitter, where fans are frustrated to see a lack of diversity in the appearance of women in the series. Here, players complain that the female characters are especially suffering from “same face syndrome”, and there’s certainly a fair bit of resemblance between the ladies in the most recent games.

This is among the reasons that many fans are hoping to see older characters make an appearance, like Ada Wong and Sheeva Alomar. There’s no suggestion that they will be in the game just yet, and they’re not even rumoured to be appearing in the game. In fact, the only other rumoured characters right now areLeon Kennedy and Jill Valentine, with the formerapparently acting as a second protagonist alongside Grace. This makes sense, given the return to Racoon City.

In any case, it won’t be too long until we can play as Grace ourselves. Resident Evil: Requiem is set to launch on June 06, 2025. We’ll likely get some more trailers before then, confirming some more characters for this long-awaited follow-up to Resident Evil Village. Requiem will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
