It’s been a long six years, but the wait forHollow Knight: Silksonglooks to be coming to an end later this year. Ever sinceNintendoteased that Silksong would launch in 2025,and then again by Xbox as a launch title for the ROG Ally, it’s looked all but certain that Silksong will launch soon, and the news of a playable demo being at Gamescom this Augusthas only bolstered those hopes.

It feels a little strange to say that Silksong will be playable next month, almost surreal, but it seems as though not every Hollow Knight: Silksong feels that way. Following the reveal of Silksong’s demo at Gamescom, a civil war started brewing on the game’s subreddit, with quite a few people upset at Team Cherry once again.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Fans Aren’t Happy About Gamescom’s Playable Demo

Given how long people have been waiting for Silksong, it’s understandable that spoilers are a big concern for many, and the topic of how to tackle them has been discussed by fans at length. All of those conversations have now started to boil over, with one post by Silksong content creator Primaconacting as a lightning rod for discontent among the subreddit.

For starters, it appears that there’s general annoyance about there being a demo in the first place, with Primacon saying it sucks that the vast majority of hardcore Silksong fans will be “watching others play the game they’ve been waiting for [for] 6 years”. As a result, it’s going to be exceptionally difficult to go into Silksong blind, and Primacon is calling for Team Cherry to release the Gamescom demo on Steam following the event.

There’s also a lot of anger directed towards Team Cherry, once again due to its lack of communication. Primacon and a large section of the Silksong fans are annoyed that Team Cherry “would rather communicate with these corporations than their fans”, pointing at the developer’s reluctance to provide a release date, but set up deals with Gamescom and Xbox’s ROG Ally.

It all seems to stem from impatience regarding the game’s release date. I can see why it would be frustrating to see the game you’ve been waiting for (possibly even backed on Kickstarter) paraded around showcases and used as marketing material, especially with nary a peep from Team Cherry itself. In any case, we’ll have to see what the next couple of events have in store, and whether this upcoming Nintendo Direct or Gamescom Opening Night Live will have the answers we seek.
