Taro’s Biggest Mistake

The subject of the crossover caused Yoko Taro to joke that he regrets introducing the Nier: Automata community to Goddess of Victory: Nikke, because Nier lost all of its ‘explicit cosplayers’ to Shift Up’s third-person shooter (thanks,Automaton).

“I wondered, maybe we shouldn’t have done this collab,” joked Taro. He later heaped praise on Shift Up’s two titles, saying “Both Nikke and Stellar Blade are incredibly high-quality titles, and to be honest, I feel intimidated and no longer want to be part of the same industry.”

Nier: Automata has previously collaborated with Stellar Blade, with Eve receiving Nier-inspired outfits.

Yoshida has his own praise for Goddess of Victory: Nikke, saying he was amazed by the visual design of Goddess of Victory, especially how the camera emphasises the backsides of the characters as you play. He remarked, “Well, this game just won,” and shortly after, billboards featuring Goddess of Victory: Nikke characters began appearing in Tokyo.

The ongoing crossover between Goddess of Victory: Nikke and Stellar Blade adds Eve, Raven and Lily from the latter to the former. Goddess of Victory: Nikke’s iteration of Eve has proportions that are even more gravity-defying than her original appearance in Stellar Blade. The crossover will feature a “collaboration story event,” which is fully voice-acted.

Stellar Blade was recently released on PC following the expiration of the game’s one-year exclusivity on PlayStation 5. The port is a massive success, attracting almost 100,000 peak concurrent players on Steam, the highest-ever total for a PlayStation port on the platform.
