God of War: Ragnarokhad a definitive ending. Atreus went off on his own to fulfil his destiny, while the Valhalla DLC showed Kratos forgiving himself and taking on the role of the Norse God of War. While this chapter in the saga is over,Sony Santa Monicahas been working on another game, but there’s been no official information about it.

Rumours have suggesteda return to the Greek realm, a metroidvania featuring his brother Deimos, who appeared in Ghost of Sparta, and even a remaster, but Sony Santa Monica has stayed quiet. Only yesterday, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier provided an update, saying that the upcoming project isthe next big thing at the studio and it’s progressing well.

Sony Santa Monica May Be Making Another God Of War Game

Later on, he provided some more information about the project onResetEra, as it has been confusing fans for a really long time. When asked if the project is a new IP, he replied:

I’ll put it this way: it’s not a new IP but it might feel like one. Maybe that’s why people are confused.

“Please don’t ask me more questions about this - if I wind up reporting more information at any point in the future it’ll be in an article, not on a forum,” he added. “And that the sci-fi stuff (that people have apparently believed for years now?) is nonsense.”

So, we know that it’s not a new IP, and considering that Santa Monica has only ever worked on God of War besides 2001’s Kintica for PS2, it looks like we might be getting another entry in the iconic IP. However, since it feels like a new IP, perhaps there may be some truth in the Deimos metroidvania rumours.

It seems this is the only information we’re going to get until the studio decides to reveal the project, or in the case of an unfortunate leak.

While the Norse chapter is over, most of us never really believed that we’ve seen the last of Kratos. The childhood dream of watching him tear through various pantheons still lingers in our hearts. In fact, the developers alsohinted at an Egyptian chapterin God of War 2018.
